Plage de l’Espiguette is massive, and I mean HUGE—honestly, nearly everyone here is naked, and it felt like the ultimate nude beach experience. It is also the busiest naturist spot we’ve visited in Europe or France! Forget Cap d’Agde and its odd vibes, this is what a true nude beach should be. My boyfriend and I came here for the day, and from the moment we arrived, we felt completely comfortable and welcomed. There’s something so freeing about this beach, and it really should be known as the premier nude beach in France. As we walked from the car park towards the beach, we noticed how the different sections sort of organize themselves. Near the parking lot seemed to be the ‘family’ area, with lots of young families and kids playing in the sand. It was such a relaxed vibe, and even though it was busy, it didn’t feel crowded or overwhelming. As we ventured further along, we found the ‘gay’ section, but honestly, everyone is so friendly and welcoming that you can settle in wherever you like. Further down the beach, we found a quieter spot to just chill out away from the larger groups, and it was perfect. No matter where you go, you can tell everyone’s just here to enjoy the day. We stayed all day, soaking up the sun on the soft, fine sand. The beach feels wild and natural, with these beautiful dunes that stretch out behind you, making it feel completely untouched. We even saw a guy selling straw hats and an ice cream vendor with a cute little trolley wandering up and down the beach. Apparently, vendors aren’t guaranteed every day, but we lucked out. It was such a fun surprise to have a little beachside treat while lounging around. The only downside? There aren’t any facilities—no showers, no bathrooms. It didn’t bother us too much, but we did notice people discretely heading off into the dunes when nature called (if you know what I mean!). You’ve got to be a bit prepared, bringing everything you need for the day—plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen—but it’s totally worth it. The beach is so beautiful and peaceful that we barely noticed the lack of amenities. We paid 6 euros for parking, and at first, we thought that was a little steep, but once we got to the beach, it felt like a bargain. It’s definitely the best nude beach in Europe we’ve been to, and we’re already planning our next trip back. If you’re looking for a naturist beach that ticks all the boxes—relaxed vibes, stunning scenery, and a welcoming atmosphere—Plage de l’Espiguette is where you need to be. Questions? Comments? Getting There
Reaching Plage de l'Espiguette is relatively easy, but be prepared for a bit of a walk from the car park to the naturist section. Once you’ve parked (it’s 6€ for cars), it’s about a 300-meter walk along the beach. The path can be a little windy at times, so it’s best to pack light but ensure you bring everything you’ll need for the day, such as water, snacks, and an umbrella for shade.
The beach itself offers plenty of space, and you’ll be greeted by the wide expanse of fine sand and open skies. Look for the signs indicating the start of the official naturist zone about 300 meters to the left once you arrive at the beach.
By Car:
Coming from Aigues-Mortes via the D979 or from Montpellier via the D62B, follow the signs for “L’Espiguette” as you enter Le Grau-du-Roi. Continue on the D255B route de l’Espiguette past several roundabouts and avoid turning off toward the non-naturist areas. You’ll arrive at the large paid car park (6€ for cars) after a few kilometers. Once parked, walk to the end of the car park and follow the boulder-lined path toward the beach. Look for signs that indicate where naturism is authorized (about 300 meters to the left after you reach the beach).
By Public Transport:
You can take a train or bus to Le Grau-du-Roi from nearby cities like Montpellier or Nîmes. From the town, it’s best to hire a taxi or rent a bike to reach Plage de l'Espiguette, as it’s several kilometers from the town center and not easily accessible by foot from public transport stops. Keep in mind, the beach itself is also a good walk from the car park.
