Our Visit

We visited Bredene Beach toward the end of summer, hoping to squeeze in one more beach day before the chill set in. It wasn’t the hottest day by any stretch, but this being the only official nude beach in Belgium, we couldn’t pass up the chance. I’ve been to plenty of European nude beaches before, though never in this part of the world – the novelty of being at Belgium’s one and only legal nude beach was too tempting to resist. And I have to say, it feels quite proudly Belgian; the town has really embraced this as part of their tourism, which makes it feel all the more welcoming. Getting here was easy – just a quick tram ride to the Bredene Renbaan stop, and then a short walk to the beach. It’s really well signposted, so finding the naturist section is a breeze. What struck me immediately was how extensive the textile area is compared to the nude section. But, oddly enough, plenty of clothed folks chose to sit within the nude area! It felt a bit strange at first, having clothed sunbathers alongside us in a designated nude zone, but they seemed perfectly at ease, so we just shrugged it off. The beach itself has a lovely sandy stretch, though I imagine it’d be a bit cozier on a warmer day. The wind started picking up in the afternoon, which, unfortunately, cut our beach day short. Our umbrellas turned inside out, and we eventually threw in the towel (literally) and packed up. I took a quick dip in the North Sea, and while it was on the chilly side, it was worth it for the novelty – plus, I didn’t feel out of place at all. In fact, this beach would be brilliant for first-timers who might feel a bit unsure. There’s a relaxed vibe here that feels a bit like back home at nude beaches in Britain, which makes sense considering we’re just across the sea. Despite hearing that there can occasionally be a few lurkers in the dunes, my friend and I, both women, felt completely safe the entire time. The lifeguard presence helped add to that feeling of security. The locals we spoke with were welcoming, and the beach has a calm, laid-back atmosphere. I’d absolutely recommend Bredene to anyone looking for a friendly introduction to a nude beach – just maybe aim for a warmer day with a bit less wind! Questions? Comments? Getting There
Bredene Beach is easily accessible, especially with Belgium’s coastal tram system. Here’s how to get there:
By Public Transport:
The most convenient way to reach Bredene Beach is by taking the coastal tram line, known locally as "Kusttram," which runs along the Belgian coastline from De Panne to Knokke. If you're coming from a nearby city like Ostend, the tram ride is straightforward and scenic, with the closest stop to the beach being Bredene Renbaan (Hippodrome). Once you arrive, take the pedestrian underpass from the tram stop and follow the signs towards the beach, which will guide you to the naturist section.
By Car:
If you’re driving, approach Bredene from the east along the "Koninklijke Baan" (N34). After passing the Royal Ostend Golf Club, keep an eye out for the tram station "Bredene Renbaan" on your left. On your right, you’ll see a sign directing you to the "Naaktstrand, Plage naturiste, FKK strand, Nudist beach." Parking is available along the road, and it’s free. Once parked, head towards the dunes and follow the marked path towards the naturist area, which is about a five-minute walk away.
