What Do You Bring to a Nude Beach?

by Megan

We all know going to a nude beach is all about stripping down to the bare necessities in the most minimalist way. In my experience though, there are still a few essential items needed to make your next nude beach visit a perfect one.

1) Clothes

I know what you’re thinking. Clothes? At a nude beach? Well yes, you can’t just leave your house in the buff and go to the beach! It’s about wearing the right clothing to get to the beach. In my experience, the lighter the better. Very often the nude beach you’ll be visiting is a bit of a journey to get to and oftentimes involves a bit of a long walk or hike. You want to make sure you’re wearing light enough clothing to stay cool for that journey and can also offer protection from the sun.

I also find wearing a flowy dress such as this one is a great choice for those comfortable in dresses. They make it easy to strip down and very often don’t require much in terms of a bra, so it’s one less thing to keep track of at the beach!

Unfortunately cothing is needed to get to no clothing areas…

2) Hydration and Snacks

Like any good beach visit, good food and beverage choices is essential. I would recommend a soft cooler bag as they’re lighter to carry for that journey to the beach. Oftentimes beaches don’t have much in terms of concessions or restaurants so make sure you factor that into your planning. If there are food and beverage vendors, you’ll often need cash, rather than credit cards.

An insulated cup is also a great idea to keep your beverage cold and, if you’re partaking in an alcoholic beverage, the cup provides a bit of discretion in case the authorities are sniffing around. Nude beaches in North America can especially be really strict about the no alcohol in public rule.

3) Towel or Seating

Because you’ll be in the nude, you’ll want to think about what your tush will be seated on while on the beach. Depending on the type of beach (sand, rocks, or grass), you may need something beyond just a beach towel. Nude resorts often advise bringing towels for hygiene and comfort.

I always take a beach blanket of some kind. These are a great investment, and if you purchase a good one, it should last for years. I save my towel for drying off after a dip or for additional padding. Sand Cloud is a beach blanket brand we see a lot on nude beaches (hint: use the code ‘sandy’ for 15% off). They have fantastic designs and are made to keep the sand off your body and private parts (ouch!). Plus, they donate 10% of all purchases towards beach conservation, which is great.

A small lawn or lightweight beach chair might also be a good option, depending on how far you have to walk to your destination. These are especially useful at rocky beaches if you don’t want to carry a large beach blanket.

4) Sun Safety

Sunburn on delicate areas? No, thank you! Since parts of you that don’t usually see the sun will be exposed, sun care is crucial. Apply sunscreen at home in front of a mirror to ensure you cover everything. It’s also helpful to get a partner or friend to reach those tricky spots.

A warning: Some sunscreens can burn and really hurt your private areas! Normally cheaper brands or brands with aerosol cooling agents will burn. Try and avoid this as much as possible! The more expensive skincare brands, like Nivea Sunscreen is our favourite type of sunscreen as it is in spray form without the aerosol feeling. If you want to save costs you could use the cheap sunscreen for everywhere else and save the expensive stuff for the delicate areas! At the beach I like to reapply discreetly with a sunscreen bar, or that same spray I used earlier.

Cap it off with a hat of some sort and you’re set to take on those UV rays!

5) Bonus Items:

These are recommendations if you can carry a bit of an extra load but aren’t necessarily essential.

Shade may be hard to come by so a beach umbrella or some kind of sun shade might be a good option if you have the space, especially if you’re taking little ones who will want some reprieve from the sun.

Some kind of entertainment or game can also be fun for those who want more than just a day lounging around.

Visit a nudist resort like Cypress Cove and won’t need to take much!
