The Good

  • Historic naturist beach: One of the oldest and most established nudist beaches on Romania’s Black Sea coast, with decades of continuous use.
  • Authentic, unchanged atmosphere: The beach looks much like it did 30 years ago; raw, simple, and free from commercial development.
  • Long but intimate shoreline: While narrow, the beach stretches far enough to allow walking and finding quieter pockets.
  • Free beach camping: Tents and small camps are allowed, making it popular for long naturist stays and weekend camping trips.
  • Warm, inviting water: The Black Sea here is often calm with pleasant temperatures, especially in summer and early autumn.
  • Mixed sand and rock terrain: Offers variety; rocky sections for swimming and sandy areas for sunbathing.

The Bad

  • Very limited space: The beach is narrow, and during weekends it can feel crowded with tents and towels close together.
  • No facilities: There are no toilets, showers, bars, or changing rooms on the beach itself.
  • Trash problems: Some visitors leave litter behind, which can spoil the natural beauty.
  • Seaweed accumulation: The sandy portion can fill with seaweed after storms or strong currents.
  • No signage or warnings: First-time visitors are not clearly informed that this is a nudist and camping beach.
  • Security concerns: There is no surveillance, lighting, or patrol presence, especially at night.
  • Not a classic “sunbed beach”: This is not suitable for travelers expecting organized seaside infrastructure.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

2 Mai Nudist Beach is not polished, curated, or comfortable in the modern sense; and that is exactly why people love it. This is a true old-school naturist beach where freedom comes before convenience. Nudity is completely normal here, practiced openly and without judgment, whether you’re sunbathing, swimming, or camping for days at a time. The atmosphere feels more like a temporary seaside village than a tourist beach. 2 Mai is close to Vama Veche - another famed Romanian naturist beach.

At the same time, this freedom comes with compromises. Space can be tight on busy weekends, facilities are nonexistent, and cleanliness depends heavily on the behavior of other visitors. If you need comfort, structure, or services, this beach will feel rough. But if you value authenticity, community spirit, and the feeling of stepping back in time, 2 Mai remains one of the most genuine naturist beaches in Romania.

Insider Tip

Visit on weekdays or outside peak summer weekends for more space and a cleaner shoreline. Bring everything you need; water, bags for trash, shade, and supplies, and consider ending the day with dinner and drinks at La Micul Golf just uphill from the beach.

Who's Here

Longtime Romanian naturists, campers, couples, solo travelers, artists, and free-spirited visitors. Weekends attract tent campers; weekdays are calm and quiet.

Beach Surface

Mixed terrain: rocky sections near the waterline and sandy areas farther up the beach. Seaweed may accumulate on the sand after storms.

Access Difficulty

Easy: Short walk from the village, but limited space and informal paths.
