- Organized but relaxed: Sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and beachside service are available, yet the atmosphere stays informal.
- Flexible sunbed system: Many tavernas offer sunbeds free with a drink or meal; otherwise expect €4–10 depending on season.
- Convenient base near Chania: Hotels, naturist-friendly accommodations, andrestaurants are all within walking distance.
The Bad
- Wind and waves: Meltemi winds can bring rough seas and red flags, temporarily limiting swimming.
- Mixed seabed: Sand alternates with pebbles and stones; water shoes can help on rougher days.
- Crowded in high season: July and August can feel busy, especially near popular tavernas.
- Public setting: While fully naturist, it’s not isolated; you’ll see movement, service staff, and passersby.
- Storm debris: After bad weather, seaweed or litter can appear before cleanup crews arrive.
The Naked Truth
Agia Marina is not a “mixed” or discreet spot; nudity here is the norm, not the exception. People arrive naked, stay naked, and no one blinks. The vibe is relaxed, social, and openly naturist, with couples, solo travelers, and long-stay regulars spread comfortably along the shore. This is not a hidden cove or a trial beach; it’s a confident, established naturist setting where clothing feels out of place.
Because it’s fully naturist, behavior is generally respectful and self-regulated, but it’s still a public-access beach with tavernas and passing foot traffic. If you’re new to naturism, it’s actually a good place to acclimate because the openness removes awkwardness quickly; but if you’re expecting solitude or silence, this may feel busy in peak summer. It’s social, open, and unapologetically nude.
Insider Tip
For a softer, sandier feel, try the stretch near Gorgona Restaurant or similar tavern-front sections. Arrive early on windy days to claim calmer spots before flags change.

Getting There
Agia Marina is located west of Chania, Crete, directly along the main coastal road between Chania and Platanias.
By Car: From Chania, follow the coastal road toward Platanias. Agia Marina is clearly signposted and runs parallel to the sea. Parking is usually on the street or in small roadside pull-ins near hotels and tavernas. Availability is best on weekdays and earlier in the day.
By Foot: If you are staying in Agia Marina or nearby Platanias, the beach is directly accessible via short paths between hotels, bars, and restaurants along the main road.
By Public Transport: Frequent buses run from Chania toward Agia Marina and Platanias throughout the day. The ride takes about 20 minutes. From any stop along the coastal road, it’s a short walk straight down to the beach.
