Getting There
Green River Skinny-Dipping Area, commonly known as Bareass Beach, is an unofficial clothing-optional swimming spot along the Green River in western Massachusetts. It is secluded, natural and undeveloped, with river swimming rather than a traditional sandy beach. Access is unofficial, with parking available at roadside pull-offs. The trail down to the water is steep and narrow. Much of the surrounding land is private property. Respect the locals by staying inside the pull-off footprints, keeping the area litter-free, and avoiding unauthorized trespassing. This helps it stay open for future skinnydipping!
Getting there
By Car: Access is generally via Green River Road, with informal and limited roadside parking near the established river access point. Park carefully and avoid blocking the road, private driveways or emergency access.
By Public Transport: There is no practical public transportation directly to the swimming area. A car is the easiest option, as taxis and rideshare services may be limited in this rural part of Massachusetts.
By Foot: From the roadside, follow the informal trail down to the river. The path may be uneven, muddy or slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
