The Good
- Quiet, spacious, and peaceful: Mindalong Beach is one of Bunbury’s calmest stretches of coastline, with long open sand and very few people, especially south of the access point.
- Easy beach access: Parking is right at Mindalong Beach Park, followed by a short, simple walk to the sand; no long hikes required.
- Excellent dog beach: This is one of the best unrestricted dog exercise beaches in the area. Dogs are common, especially in the mornings and late afternoons.
- Designated clothing-optional area: A clearly permitted nude section exists south of the viewing platform, offering a respectful and relaxed atmosphere. It is one of the best nude beaches in Western Australia.
- Beautiful sunsets: The sunsets here are outstanding, with glowing skies, open ocean views, and wooden viewing platforms perfect for photos.
The Bad
- Very limited parking: The main car park is small and fills quickly. Overflow parking is available farther up the street but requires extra walking.
- No facilities on site: There are no toilets, showers, bins, or food vendors. You must bring everything with you.
- Uneven seabed in places: While mostly sandy, parts of the water can feel uneven underfoot.
- Not a surf beach: Waves are usually small and inconsistent, making it unsuitable for surfing.
- Nudist signage is subtle: Signs marking the clothing-optional zone are low and easy to miss if you’re not looking carefully.
- Occasional car park issues at night: Some visitors report noise or disturbances overnight, though the beach itself remains calm and safe.
The Naked Truth
Mindalong Beach has a quiet, long-standing clothing-optional section in Western Australia that begins roughly 150 metres south of the wooden viewing platform. While the nude area itself isn’t very large, it is clearly separated from the main family and dog-walking sections, giving everyone space to enjoy the beach comfortably. Most people who venture into the nude zone are respectful locals, solo visitors, or dog walkers enjoying the freedom and calm.
Nudity here is relaxed rather than social, and the beach rarely feels crowded. Many visitors note that it’s easy to recognize when you’re approaching the clothing-optional stretch, with plenty of time to turn back if preferred. The further south you walk, the quieter and more private the experience becomes often with long empty sections even on warm afternoons.
Insider Tip
For the calmest experience, visit early morning or near sunset. Walk south past the viewing platform for the quietest areas and the nudist section. Bring an umbrella; there is no natural shade anywhere on the beach.
Who's Here
Dog walkers, locals, sunset photographers, couples, solo beachgoers, and occasional naturists. The nude section tends to be calm and lightly populated, while the main area attracts walkers and families with dogs.
Beach Surface
Wide compact sand with minimal blow-around. Mostly sandy entry into the water, with small rocky outcrops a short distance offshore. Good for paddling and light swimming.
Access Difficulty
Easy: Short walk from the car park via a restored and well-cleared access path. Not wheelchair accessible due to soft sand and lack of ramps.
