The Good
- Soft sand: The beach features nice, comfortable sand, perfect for lounging or walking along the shore.
- Nude-friendly dining: It’s completely acceptable to enjoy a meal at the nearby restaurants while staying in the nude.
- Accommodation options: The naturist village offers plenty of varied accommodation to suit different tastes and budgets.
The Bad
- Sexualized atmosphere: The culture here is highly sexualized and swinger orientated.
- Beach behavior: Sex acts are regularly performed on the beach.
- Crowds: The area can get very busy, especially during peak season, detracting from a peaceful vibe.
- Costs: Expect to pay for entrance fees and parking, making it a more expensive outing.
- Noise levels: At times, the beach and surrounding area can be quite loud, which may not appeal to those looking for tranquility.
The Naked Truth
Cap d'Agde, recognized globally as one of the premier nude beaches, holds an iconic position in the naturist world. While it remains a prominent symbol of the original nude beach concept, it's important to note that several other naturist beaches in the vicinity maintain a more authentic embodiment of the nude beach culture, in stark contrast to Cap d'Agde.
In parts, Cap d'Agde exhibits a laid-back, traditional nude beach ambiance, particularly towards the right. However, things shift notably beyond the lifeguard station, where the atmosphere transitions into an overtly sexualized environment. The unique character of this beach, while intriguing to some, might not resonate if you're seeking a more typical nude beach experience.
Insider Tip
Stick to the beach to the right (when looking at the ocean) if you want to avoid highly sexualized part of the beach that has more of a swingers vibe.
Who's Here
A large proportion of swingers and middle aged couples.
Beach Surface
Sand
Access Difficulty
Easy. However payment is required to access the beach.

Our Visit

As I'm sure you can tell, these reviewers did not enjoy their visit to Cap d'Agde. In our opinion, it goes against everything a nude beach should be. Lingerie is a common clothing choice and sexual acts are performed openly on the beach. Bizarrely some restaurants and bars in the naturist village also have 'dress standards' in the late afternoon.

This beach is very busy and it's nearly impossible to find a spot. Most other nude beaches in France have a completely different vibe and we don't suggest coming to Cap d'Agde as a first timer. The beach area to the right is more laidback, the further you walk up the beach the more sexualized it gets - with most 'activity' happening past the lifeguard station. As nude beach regulars we found it very intimidating and more of swingers vibe. Nothing wrong with it, just not our scene and we'd argue this is goes well beyond a nude beach.
We can understand why this is one of the original nude beaches in the world as the natural offerings are breathtaking. The sand is soft and warm. The water is gentle, inviting and the perfect temperature. That's where the compliments end.
There are food vendors but they are overpriced and not worth the visit. A positive perhaps is that you can dine and drink at the bars and restaurants naked if you'd like. Plenty of accommodation options in the naturist village exist, however we chose not to stay here.
In short: if you like nude beaches for an inclusive, natural, chill vibe. This is not the beach for you. However, if you are after a more pure nudist beach in the area, Le Sérignan Plage is close by and is highly recommended!

Getting There
The Naturist Village at Cap d’Agde is easy to reach, with clear signage and good access by road and public transport. Just remember: the village is gated, and only registered or paying guests can enter, so have your booking confirmation ready at the entrance.
By Car:
Cap d’Agde is about a 1-hour drive from Montpellier and 2 hours from Toulouse. Use “Port Nature” or “Héliopolis” in your GPS, or follow signs for “Village Naturiste” as you near the resort. There’s a dedicated security gate where you'll need to show your reservation. Most residences offer on-site or nearby parking, with some spots included and others shared.
By Public Transport:
Take the train to Agde station, which is well-connected to Paris, Montpellier, and Marseille. From there, it's a 10–15 minute taxi ride to the village entrance. You can also take bus line 3, which stops close to the gate.
For international travelers, Béziers Cap d’Agde Airport (BZR) is the closest (20 minutes by car). Montpellier (MPL) and Toulouse (TLS) airports offer more flight options, with onward travel by train or rental car.
Recommended Accommodation
Non-nude: Plenty of clothing optional accommodations exist in Cap d'Agde Naturist Village.
