The Good
- Alberta’s well known nude beach: Established in 2013, CottonTail Corner is one of the first known naturist locations in Alberta, officially recognized by a local naturist group.
- Peaceful river setting: Nestled along the North Saskatchewan River, the beach offers calm waters, forested banks, and soft sand patches perfect for sunbathing or floating downstream.
- Friendly community: Regulars describe it as respectful, welcoming, and inclusive - a mix of naturists, couples, and first-timers who help keep the atmosphere safe and comfortable.
- Easy day trip: Only 20 minutes from Edmonton’s west end, making it one of Canada’s most accessible naturist escapes.
- Natural escape: The 30- to 40-minute forest trail adds a sense of adventure; you’ll pass wildflowers, birds, and the quiet hum of the river valley before reaching the beach.
The Bad
- No facilities: There are no washrooms, garbage bins, or food stalls - pack in and pack out everything.
- Trail conditions: The access path can get muddy or buggy after rain, so bug spray, water shoes, and proper footwear are musts.
- Limited signage: Some visitors report unclear markers about where nudity begins and ends, which occasionally causes confusion with textile visitors.
- Occasional gawkers: A few reviews mention voyeurs or clothed onlookers wandering too close; best to stay within the clearly signed naturist area.
- Rocky terrain: Sections of the beach are pebbly, so a mat or chair makes relaxing more comfortable.
The Naked Truth
CottonTail Corner is Alberta’s flagship naturist beach, and it feels like a hidden oasis just outside the city. It’s clean, respectful, and community-minded - a true naturist environment where nudity is normal, not performative.
The river, trees, and birds provide a natural soundtrack, making it one of Canada’s most peaceful spots to disconnect from stress during the short summer season
While it lacks amenities, what it offers instead is freedom, friendliness, and that rare feeling of being far from everything yet close to home. There is a community feel here and it ranks up the top when it comes to naturist beaches in Alberta.
Insider Tip
Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water shoes. Stay clothed on the trail - nudity is allowed only once you reach the signed naturist section.
