The Good
- Well-Equipped: The beach offers full amenities including stairs, showers, beach loungers, parasols, a restaurant, and a bar. There’s also a volleyball court, a playground, and a swimming pool with a slide for kids.
- Beautiful Setting: The beach is located in a stunning region with crystal-clear water, rocky shores, and plenty of shady spots under pine trees. The views of the charming bays are breathtaking.
- Spacious and Not Crowded: There’s lots of space to spread out, and it doesn’t get too crowded. There are also secluded bays if you're seeking more privacy.
- Friendly Atmosphere: The atmosphere is calm and friendly, making it a perfect place to relax. The staff and visitors contribute to a welcoming community feel.
- Historical Significance: As the oldest nude beach in Croatia and possibly the world, it has a unique historical appeal, having been visited by Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
The Bad
- Entrance Fee: There is an entrance fee of 30 kuna (approximately 4€/person), which some might find a bit steep. Sun loungers are also charged separately at 30 kuna each per day.
- Rocky Terrain: The beach is mostly rocky, so it might not be ideal if you prefer sandy beaches.
- Expensive Amenities: While the restaurant and bar are convenient, prices can be on the higher side, though they are considered standard for the island.
- Parking Fees: There are offroad parking spots available, but they also come with a fee.

Our Visit
Matt & Megan
Nude Beach Map. Visited 2025
We were hosted by FKK Kandarola Beach and we were honoured to make the pilgrimage to where the nude beach movement really got its start! This beach got its status as the world’s first official nude beach in 1936 when King Edward VIII and his then wife-to-be Wallace Simpson requested a skinny dip here.
It turns out King Edward VIII had excellent taste and, since then, thousands of people visit the beach every year.

While you can feel the presence of that history, we really think this beach is more than that. Every morning, as naturists make there way here you know it’s a special place. Offering over a kilometer of shoreline and beautiful amenities this really makes us feel like the naturist movement is thriving and well.
Because the access here is paid, the beach is very well taken care of. There are also areas beach goers can reserve which have umbrellas for shade and beach loungers. There’s a dock for ferry boats as well as to jump off of.
This beach is kid-friendly as well, offering an area that has a gradual entry for the little ones. The water is gentle and clear. The temperature was also perfect!
The restaurant here has something for everybody and really great service.
We found there were all kinds of people visiting this beach, from retirees to young families as well as visitors from lots of different (mostly European) countries. This definitely a must-do if you want an authentic naturist beach in Croatia.
