The Good
- Secluded setting: Homolulu Beach sits hidden along the Bygdøy Peninsula in Oslo, offering privacy and calm for those seeking a natural, quiet escape. The small rocky shore is surrounded by forest and cliffs, giving a sense of remoteness within reach of the city.
- Naturist-friendly atmosphere: Though unofficial, the area is well-known as a naturist and LGBTQ+ friendly spot. Nude sunbathing is common and accepted, with a relaxed and respectful environment, especially during summer afternoons.
- Peaceful and scenic: The rocky shoreline and clear water create a striking contrast with the surrounding green forest. The cove feels naturally sheltered, perfect for sunbathing or a refreshing swim on warm days.
- Proximity to amenities: Toilets and showers are available at Paradisbukta, about a five-minute walk away, so visitors have access to basic facilities despite the secluded location. Take note that this is not as popular as nearby Huk Naturist beach.
The Bad
- Rocky terrain: There is no sand, only stones and shells. It can be uncomfortable to sit or lie down without a thick towel or mat.
- Unmarked path: The trail from Paradisbukta is narrow and unmarked, which may be confusing for first-time visitors.
- Adult activity in nearby woods: Some areas beyond the main cove are used for cruising. Visitors should stay closer to the beach entrance if they prefer a calm naturist experience.
- No shade or amenities: There are no kiosks, cafés, or lifeguards on-site, so bringing water, snacks, and sunscreen is necessary.
The Naked Truth
Homolulu Beach, also called ‘Gay Beach’ is one of Oslo’s best-kept naturist secrets - a peaceful rocky hideaway where locals enjoy sunbathing and swimming in privacy. The cove’s raw natural beauty, combined with its easy access from the city, makes it a favorite for those who prefer a simple, clothing-optional environment without distractions.
While it’s unofficial and mixed-use, the atmosphere remains open-minded and respectful. It’s not the most comfortable beach terrain, but for visitors seeking solitude and natural surroundings, Homolulu offers a quiet corner to relax under Norway’s summer sun.
There are more well known naturist beaches in Oslo, but this one is much quieter and heavily used by the LGBTQ+ community.
Insider Tip
Bring a thick mat or yoga pad to sit on the rocks comfortably, and stay near the main entrance for a quieter, more relaxed experience.
