The Good

  • Massive sandy shoreline: Inverness Beach is one of the longest beaches in Nova Scotia, stretching roughly 4 km of mostly soft, walkable sand.
  • Spectacular scenery: Rolling hills, dunes, ocean cliffs, and open Atlantic views create a dramatic Cape Breton backdrop.
  • Beautiful boardwalk system: A scenic wooden boardwalk runs alongside the beach with viewing platforms, photo spots, and easy access points.
  • Excellent for long walks: The firm sand and length make it perfect for walking, jogging, and sunset strolls.
  • Sea glass hunting: After storms or during quieter seasons, visitors often find colorful sea glass, some of the best in the region.
  • Great sunsets and skies: Sunsets can be stunning, and on lucky days visitors report rainbows, fogbows, and glowing evening light.

The Bad

  • Cold & windy conditions: Strong Atlantic winds are common and can make it feel cold even on sunny days. The water temp is frigid even in summer.
  • Not guaranteed nudity: Whilst people strip off in the far section of the beach, it is not nearly as common at Crystal Crescent Beach in Nova Scotia.
  • Rough surf at times: Waves can be powerful, especially during high tide or windy weather.
  • Limited food options: Only one small snack bar and ice cream stand operate near the entrance.
  • Washroom capacity issues: There are only a few stalls, which can cause lines on busy summer days.
  • Parking pressure: The upper lot fills quickly during peak season, though a lower lot closer to the beach often has space.
  • Little natural shade: Trees are mainly near parking areas, not on the beach itself.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Inverness Beach is sometimes frequented by people who who strip off. Due to its sheer size and long, open shoreline, visitors who wander far from the main entrances will often find themselves with plenty of space and privacy.

What makes this beach feel freeing isn’t just nudism, but scale. The openness, wind, crashing waves, and endless sand create a powerful sense of space where you can truly relax without feeling crowded. Even on busy days, once you walk a few minutes north or south, it becomes easy to find your own quiet stretch to breathe, wander, and enjoy the Atlantic energy.

Insider Tip

If the main parking lot looks full, continue driving downhill toward the beach; there is a second parking area closer to the sand that many visitors miss. For calmer wind, walk toward the southern end of the beach near the dunes.

Who's Here

Families, couples, photographers, walkers, swimmers, surfers, dog owners, golfers from nearby Cabot Links, and travelers exploring Cape Breton. The crowd is friendly and relaxed. It is not always populated by people who strip off.

Beach Surface

Soft sand throughout most of the shoreline, with occasional sandbars extending into the water. Excellent for walking; minimal rocks.

Access Difficulty

Easy: Flat access via boardwalks and sand paths. Not fully wheelchair-accessible due to soft sand beyond the boardwalk.
