Nudity Policy

OPTIONAL

Nudity is optional. Official naturist zone is at southern end of Is Arenas beach strip.

The Good

  • Official nude beach: Is Benas became Sardinia’s first officially designated naturist beach in 2022. Clear signage marks the section, giving visitors confidence and comfort.
  • Quiet and remote: Tucked inside the Sinis Peninsula, it offers solitude rarely found elsewhere. No crowds, no beach clubs; just sea, dunes, and pine forest.
Natural scenery: Soft golden sand mixed with shells, gentle waves, and views across the Mediterranean make it ideal for peaceful sunbathing and nature walks.
  • Freedom-focused community: The local municipality supports naturist activities and even nudist weddings (recently announced), reflecting the area’s strong emphasis on personal freedom.
  • Eco-friendly setting: Surrounded by pine forest and wetlands, the beach sits within a protected zone with minimal development.

The Bad

  • Limited access: After driving a dirt road, visitors must walk ~700 m through forest from the car park, not ideal for those with mobility issues.
Few facilities: No toilets, showers, or bars; bring everything you need (water, snacks, umbrella).
  • Seaweed and jellyfish: Decomposing seaweed near shore can smell unpleasant; jellyfish occasionally appear.
  • Insects: Wasps may be present and can be annoying in warmer months.
  • Variable swimming conditions: Calm days are best; waves and seaweed can make swimming less enjoyable.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Is Benas is all about simplicity and that means no crowds, no frills, just freedom. It’s the place to disconnect, walk barefoot on shell-dotted sand, and relax in silence. The southern end is officially naturist, clearly marked and respected by visitors. Is Benas regularly tops the list of best nude beaches in Italy.
You won’t find lifeguards or beach bars here, but you’ll find peace; and a rare sense of space. Come prepared, travel light, and treat the environment with care.

Insider Tip

Head south along the shore for the official naturist zone and cleaner sand beyond the seaweed line. Bring sturdy sandals for the walk and extra water; there’s no shade or services once you arrive.
