The Good

  • Beautiful island setting: Kalvøya is a small, green island near Sandvika, perfect for walking, swimming, and relaxing in nature. It takes about 25 minutes to walk around, with benches, paths, and scenic viewpoints along the way.
  • Peaceful naturist area: The naturist beach is calm, friendly, and frequented by respectful visitors. It’s one of those rare places where you can truly unwind without noise or crowds.
  • Sandy and rocky mix: You can choose between sunbathing on warm flat rocks or lying on the small sandy patch near the jetty. The mix of textures makes it comfortable and natural.
  • Facilities: There’s a freshwater tap and an outdoor shower near the sandy section - simple but convenient.
  • Sun and scenery: In summer, the beach gets sunlight until early evening (around 7–8 p.m. in August). The sea views and soft light over the fjord make it a perfect end-of-day spot.
  • All-year charm: Locals visit even in winter, when the island trail freezes and you can literally “walk on water” - a quiet Norwegian joke comes to life.

The Bad

  • No café or kiosk: Bring your own food and drinks. There are no vendors or shops on the island.
  • Seagull mess: The floating pier often attracts seagulls, and droppings can make it slippery.
  • Shells and rocks: Bathing shoes are a must - live shells and sharp stones can hurt bare feet in the shallow areas.
  • Muddy bottom: The seabed can be a little soft and murky near the shore, especially after rain.
  • Occasional incidents: While most visitors are polite, a few have mentioned isolated cases of inappropriate behavior or lack of respect for privacy - uncommon but worth noting.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Kalvøya Naturiststrand feels like a slice of peaceful Norwegian nature where naturism meets everyday outdoor life. It’s not touristy like the Huk Naturist Beach, but a relaxed community spot where locals swim, sunbathe, or simply sit by the water. The surroundings - tall pines, smooth rocks, and slow waves; make you feel far from the city, even though Sandvika is only a short walk away.

It’s small, cozy, and unpretentious. You come here not for luxury, but for calm, for that quiet sense of being part of nature. Whether you’re lying on the stones, chatting with regulars, or watching the sun linger late into the evening, Kalvøya gives you that rare feeling of stillness and belonging.

Insider Tip

Wear beach shoes and bring water, snacks, and a towel. Disposable grills are allowed, but only if you use a grill tin and clean up afterward. The best time to visit is on clear summer afternoons when the water is calm and the sun stays out late.
