Nudity Policy
OPTIONALNudity is optional but expected towards southern sections
The Good
- Long, natural shoreline: Kelly’s Beach stretches along a 7-kilometre barrier island, offering endless soft sand and warm Gulf of St. Lawrence waters; some of the warmest saltwater in Canada.
- Serene and spacious: Because there’s only one entry via a 500-metre boardwalk, crowds thin quickly as you walk south, creating peaceful solitude ideal for nude sunbathing.
- Scenic walk: The boardwalk across the dunes is part of the experience, with interpretive signs explaining the fragile ecosystem and panoramic coastal views.
- Wildlife encounters: Bird watchers often spot plovers, gulls, and terns, while swimmers occasionally see seals or crabs in the clear shallows.
- Clean and well-kept: The park is maintained by Parks Canada staff, and amenities near the main beach; washrooms, showers, and change rooms — are in excellent condition.
The Bad
- Long trek to nude area: It’s about a 20- to 30-minute walk south from the main beach before reaching the clothing-optional zone, and another 30 minutes to the most secluded spots.
- No facilities beyond the boardwalk: Once you leave the main area, there are no bathrooms, trash bins, or shade, so bring water and sunscreen.
- Occasional patrols: While rangers rarely enforce nudity restrictions, covering up when boats or park staff pass by is advised.
- Bugs and weather: Blackflies and horseflies can appear on hot, calm days, and the water, though warm by Canadian standards, still starts off chilly.
- No dogs or bikes: To protect wildlife and dunes, pets and bicycles aren’t permitted on the boardwalk or beach.
The Naked Truth
Kellys Beach is one of Canada’s most scenic and naturally preserved nude-friendly coastlines. Though not officially designated for naturism, its remoteness and length make it a comfortable and low-risk place to enjoy nudity discreetly. With its dunes, wildlife, and shallow turquoise water, it feels more like an Atlantic island than a mainland beach.
Visitors come for quiet, not socializing; it’s peaceful, natural, and spread out enough to feel private even on warm summer days. Kellys Nude Beach is one of the rare few clothing optional beaches in Atlantic Canada.
Insider Tip
Walk south for at least 20 minutes past the main crowd to find naturist-friendly areas. Bring water, a hat, and insect repellent - there’s no shade or services once you leave the main section.
Who's Here
Naturists, bird watchers, and quiet beachgoers; mixed crowd, mostly respectful locals and travelers.
Beach Surface
Fine golden sand with shallow, warm water and gentle surf.
Access Difficulty
Easy to moderate: flat 500-metre boardwalk to the beach, then a long walk south for solitude.
