Nudity Policy
OPTIONALNudity is optional and sporadic
The Good
- Expansive and peaceful shoreline: Long Beach (Baie Longue) lives up to its name; one of the longest beaches on Saint Martin, offering wide open space and exceptional privacy.
- Nudity varies: Visitors have described the beach as being totally devoid of naturists at times. This is especially true on weekends. Use your own judgement as to whether you strip off. For more guaranteed naturist beaches in Saint Martin - try busy Orient Beach or for quieter vibes Happy Bay Beach.
- Exceptional sunset views: Consistently praised as one of the best places on the island to watch the sunset.
- Soft sand and stunning scenery: Fine sand, crystal-clear water, and scenic coastal views make this beach a favorite among repeat visitors. Quiet atmosphere, no commercial development, and nearly untouched surroundings support a “true escape” experience.
- Clear water and enjoyable swimming spots: Although parts of the shoreline are rocky, there are several segments suitable for swimming. When waves are moderate, the water is ideal for a refreshing dip.
- Perfect for those seeking solitude: Frequently uncrowded, especially outside peak hours. Very private compared to most beaches. Many visitors report being the only ones on the beach at times.
The Bad
- Tricky access and gated entry: The beach can only be accessed via the Terres Basses gated entrance. GPS may misdirect toward private residences; guards allow passage once told you’re heading to Long Beach. Some visitors report waiting for gate access.
- No amenities whatsoever: No restrooms, food, water, bars, shops, or chair/umbrella rentals.
- Limited shade: There are no palm trees or shaded structures. Sun exposure is intense throughout the day. Umbrella or shade tent is strongly advised.
- Rocky shoreline sections: Certain parts of the beach have flat rocks and shallow reefs just at the water’s edge, making entry slightly difficult.
- Potential access frustrations: Some comments mention that security occasionally intensifies controls, making the beach seem “privatised" despite legally remaining public. There may be traffic congestion on access roads, especially during high season.
The Naked Truth
Long Beach (Baie Longue) is about space, silence, and sunsets, not particularly freedom of undress. Despite its size and privacy, this is not always a naturist beach in practice. Sometimes nudity here feels out of place and attract attention rather than blend in. What you get instead is one of the most open, peaceful stretches of sand on Saint Martin; often so quiet it feels abandoned.
The beach rewards people who value solitude over convenience. No vendors, no music, no distractions; just long walks, big skies, and some of the best sunsets on the island. The gated access and lack of facilities keep crowds away, but they also mean you must come prepared and patient. If you want calm, privacy, and a classic sunset beach, Baie Longue delivers. If you’re looking for the freedom of a guaranteed clothing-optional beach in Saint Martin, this isn’t it.
Insider Tip
Tell security you’re visiting the beach; they usually let you in without issues. Swimming is best at sections without visible rocks. For the best water entry, walk along the beach to locate smoother access points before wading in.
Who's Here
Mostly couples, peace-seekers, experienced beachgoers, and occasional sunset chasers. Not ideal for families with young children due to strong surf and lack of facilities.
Beach Surface
Long stretch of soft, fine sand with patches of exposed rock near the waterline. Clear water, generally clean, with a steep drop-off in swimming areas.
Access Difficulty
Moderate: Requires vehicle access through a gated residential community. Driving through Rue des Terres Basses, turn onto Rue de la Falaise. There is a checkpoint where you need to state you’re heading to the beach.
