The Good
- Sweet water springs: A few natural springs flow down to the Dead Sea there, allowing you to rinse off salt water after bathing.
- Primitive camping allowed: You can camp along the shore or use the campsite at the Travelers Village.
- Cliff-top village base: Metzoke Dragot Travelers Village offers multiple accommodations (hostel rooms, glamping tents, apartments) and overlooks the Dead Sea + desert mountains.
- Natural / rugged beauty: The area is relatively undeveloped, giving a wild, remote feel. Reuters mentions it as “one of the last unspoiled spots” along the shrinking Dead Sea shoreline.
- Trails nearby: The Dead Sea coastal trail from Ein Gedi to Metzoke Dragot passes by, offering hiking opportunities.
The Bad
- No formal nudist designation: Nudity is tolerated in some areas, but the site is not officially declared a nude beach.
- Limited facilities: While the village has showers, café, etc., down on the beach there are no built amenities such as permanent restrooms, shade structures, or shops.
- Access & terrain challenges: Cliffs, desert terrain, and paths can be steep or rugged to descend to the beach.
- Environmental risk: Due to Dead Sea receding and sinkholes, some shore areas are unstable.
- Seasonal and condition variability: The springs may not always flow strongly; the Dead Sea water levels change, and some beach parts may be submerged or eroded at times.
The Naked Truth
Metsoke Dragot is more than a beach; it’s a desert-sea frontier experience. It’s not about luxury or comfort; it’s about wildness, minimalism, and the contrast of fresh springs against the hyper-saline Dead Sea. The cliff village acts as a hub and shelter, but the shore remains raw. Those who visit do so for the unique combination of desert cliffs, floating saltwater, springs, and solitude.
If nudity happens there, it does so quietly by the more secluded shore sections. Expect to walk, scramble, and live lightly while you’re there. There aren't many naturist places in Israel but this definitely tops the list!
Insider Tip
Use the springs to rinse off salt after swimming. Stay close to the shoreline at first, then explore quieter stretches. Be mindful of cliffs and avoid areas showing signs of instability.

Getting There
Metsoke Dragot is on the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea (Israeli / West Bank border area).
By Bus:
If you are from Jerusalem Proper, take bus No. 486 going to Metsoke Dragot. It will drop you off at the Metsoke Dragot Junction. From there, begin the moderate hike which can take up to 30 mins to 1 hour.
From Road 90, a winding access road leads down toward the cliff-top village. From the village, trails or paths descend to the shore and springs. Vehicles park at the top; further access is by foot down toward the water.
