The Good
- Remote and untouched: Morrisons Beach is one of Nova Scotia’s most secluded coastal stretches, often completely empty even in summer. Its isolation makes it a peaceful spot for long walks and quiet relaxation.
- Expansive shoreline: The beach runs roughly 4 km each way, offering 8 km of sand and shallow surf ideal for barefoot walks or wading.
- Abundant wildlife: Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting sandpipers, gulls, and occasionally seals along the rocky points near Framboise Cove.
- Natural beauty: The setting feels wild and windswept, with dunes, coastal grasses, and views of the Atlantic that change color throughout the day.
- Discreet naturist use: Though unofficial, the far southern section near the dunes is occasionally used by naturists due to its privacy and low foot traffic.
The Bad
- No cell service: The area is a signal dead zone, so plan ahead and let someone know your route before visiting.
- No facilities: There are no restrooms, shops, or picnic areas — this is a fully natural environment.
- Rough access road: Pig Point Road is gravel and narrow, with soft sand in spots. A vehicle with decent clearance is recommended.
- Exposed to weather: The open coastline can be windy, and fog rolls in quickly. Bring layers and be mindful of changing conditions.
- Not ideal for swimming: The Atlantic water here is cold year-round, and the waves can be strong. Most visitors come for walking, photography, and solitude rather than swimming.
The Naked Truth
Morrisons Beach (also known locally as Framboise Beach) is a hidden gem on Cape Breton’s southern shore; a wild, unspoiled strip of sand where the Atlantic meets open sky.
There’s no infrastructure, signage, or crowds, only the rhythm of the surf and the sound of seabirds. Morrisons Beach is typical of what to expect from a nude beach in Atlantic Canada.
Its remoteness and size mean you can walk for kilometers without seeing another person, which has made it quietly known among some locals as a spot where discreet naturism is tolerated. However, it’s best approached as a nature walk first - a place to unplug, explore, and feel how vast and unspoiled Nova Scotia’s coastline truly is.
Insider Tip
Visit early in the morning or near sunset for the best light and calmest winds. Bring insect repellent in summer and avoid visiting during or after heavy rain, as the access road can become muddy.
