Nudity Policy

OPTIONAL

Clothing optional (unofficial, commonly practiced)

The Good

  • True castaway-style beauty: Myrtle Beach feels wild and cinematic, with untouched sand, open ocean, and forested headlands that make it feel far removed from modern life.
  • Well-known clothing-optional beach: While unofficial, nudity is long-established and widely accepted here, especially away from the access point.
  • Plenty of space to spread out: The beach is long and wide, allowing visitors to find complete privacy without feeling crowded.
  • Soft sand and clean water: The sand is fine and comfortable, and the water is usually clean and inviting on calmer days.
  • Great for swimming and body surfing: Waves are generally manageable, and many enjoy short swims and dips close to shore.
  • Peaceful and quiet atmosphere: Most days remain calm and relaxed, attracting people who want nature rather than noise.
  • Beautiful surrounding landscape: Bushland, coastal forest, and grassland frame the beach and make the walk in especially scenic.

The Bad

  • Steep descent to the beach: Access involves stairs and uneven paths that can be challenging, particularly on the return climb.
  • Water gets deep quickly: The drop-off happens fast, making it unsuitable for weak swimmers or children.
  • Very little natural shade: Shade is almost nonexistent on the sand; umbrellas or shelters are essential.
  • Rough access road: Myrtle Road is unsealed and uneven, with sections that can be uncomfortable for low-clearance vehicles.
  • Poor signage: The beach is not well signposted, and first-time visitors often miss the correct turnoff.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Myrtle Beach is one of those places people either fall in love with instantly or find too raw for comfort. It is not curated, protected, or serviced; just sand, ocean, and bush. The clothing-optional culture here is relaxed and genuine, and many visitors describe feeling completely at ease stripping off and enjoying the beach naturally.

However, this freedom comes with responsibility. The lack of shade, patrols, and signage means you must be confident, prepared, and respectful of the conditions. When the weather is calm and the beach is quiet, Myrtle can feel magical, but it’s best suited to experienced beachgoers who appreciate isolation over convenience. This is a wild nude beach in NSW that is worth the effort.

Insider Tip

Bring your own shade, plenty of water, and reef-safe sunscreen. If the main access area feels busy, simply walk farther along the shoreline; privacy increases quickly in both directions.

Who's Here

Naturists, bushwalkers, hikers on the Murramarang Coastal Walk, couples, solo visitors, and quiet locals. The crowd is generally respectful, with plenty of space between groups.

Beach Surface

Soft sand with occasional compact sections near the waterline. Waves vary by conditions, and the seabed deepens quickly beyond the shore break.

Access Difficulty

Moderate to challenging. The walk itself is short, but the steep stairs, uneven bush paths, and rough vehicle access make it unsuitable for those with mobility issues.

Getting There

Myrtle Beach is located within Murramarang National Park, on the South Coast of New South Wales.

By Car: From Batemans Bay, drive south along the Princes Highway toward Kioloa. Turn onto Myrtle Road and follow it carefully through bushland. The road is unsealed and uneven but passable with slow driving; 4WD is not required, but low vehicles should proceed cautiously. Parking is informal near the trail access point.

By Foot: From the parking area, follow the clearly worn bush track through forest and grassland. A short walk leads to a set of stairs descending directly onto the beach. The return climb is steep and requires reasonable fitness.

By Public Transport: There is no public transport access to Myrtle Beach. A private vehicle is required, followed by a short walk to the sand.
