The Good

  • Historic naturist site: Recognized as the oldest official nude beach in the Netherlands, Callantsoog has offered legal naturist recreation for over 30 years.
  • Long and spacious: Stretching along the North Sea coast, the beach is wide and ideal for long walks, with plenty of room for privacy even on busy days.
  • Easy access: Main entrances at Strandslag 13 (Kiefteglop) and Strandslag 14 (Sint Maartenszee North) both lead directly to the naturist zone, clearly marked with signs.
  • Beach pavilions nearby: Several cafés and pavilions are located close to the entrances, such as Woest, De Strandtent, Zilte Zucht, and Noord; though nudity is not allowed on terraces.
  • Clean and scenic: The beach is generally well-maintained, with soft sand, tall dunes, and a peaceful coastal setting beside the Zwanenwater nature reserve.

The Bad

  • Dogs allowed: Parts of the naturist area double as dog run zones, and some visitors report dog waste on the sand, which can be unpleasant.
  • Breakwaters hazard: Stone dams along the shore are dangerous for swimming when covered at high tide; extra caution is needed.
  • No nudity at pavilions: Recent rule changes no longer allow nude use of café terraces.
  • Exposure near textile zones: The beach transitions from textile to naturist gradually, so there can be overlap near the boundaries.
  • Wind and chill: As with most North Sea beaches, the weather can be cool and breezy, even in summer.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Naaktstrand Callantsoog combines Dutch efficiency with naturist tradition. It’s spacious, legal, and clearly marked; making it one of the most comfortable and approachable nude beaches in Europe. The setting is open and natural, bordered by dunes and the Zwanenwater reserve, offering a calm atmosphere for sunbathing, swimming, or long walks.

Facilities nearby make it practical, but it’s still a North Sea beach - expect brisk winds, cold water, and sometimes shared space with dogs.

Insider Tip

Enter at Strandslag 13 (Kiefteglop) for the shortest walk to the naturist section. Watch for signs at pole 14.50; that’s the official start of the nude zone. Bring a windbreaker and water shoes for comfort.

Getting There

Callantsoog’s is one of the oldest and most popular nude beaches in Netherlands, known for its wide sandy stretch and relaxed atmosphere backed by peaceful dunes. It’s easy to reach whether you’re driving or taking public transport, and the walk in is part of the charm.

By Car:
Drive to Callantsoog and park at Strandslag 13 (Kiefteglop) or Strandslag 14 (Sint Maartenszee) - both have ample paid parking and clear signage. From either spot, follow the marked paths over the dunes to the beach. The official naturist section begins about 500 meters to the left (south) of the Kiefteglop entrance and is clearly indicated with “Naaktrecreatie toegestaan” signs.

By Bus:
From Schagen Station, take bus 152 toward Callantsoog. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in the village, it’s a pleasant 15–20 minute walk through the dunes to the beach entrances. The walk is flat and scenic - perfect for soaking in that fresh North Sea air before you hit the sand.
