The Good
- A peaceful, wild alternative to Les Salines: Petite Anse des Salines is often described as the smaller, quieter, and more intimate version of its famous neighbor. With soft white sand, turquoise water, coconut trees, and a sheltered feel, it is a beautiful, natural escape.
- Naturism tolerated in a serene setting: Although not officially declared nudist, this cove has long been known as a tolerated naturist spots in the Caribbean, especially among quiet, respectful naturists and gay-friendly visitors. Many come for freedom, calm, and sunrise or sunset moments.
- Calm, tranquil atmosphere: Mornings are especially quiet, with very few people. A perfect place for solitude, reading, or enjoying a peaceful beach day away from large crowds.
- Beautiful water and tropical scenery: Clear water, soft sand, and lush greenery create the ideal Caribbean postcard setting. Great for photography, relaxing dips, and enjoying a more natural beach ambiance.
The Bad
- Not an official nudist beach, police occasionally enforce rules: While naturism is common and widely tolerated, it is NOT legally designated, and visitors report very occasional police visits, particularly in high season or late in the year. Fines are not normally issued.
- Occasional inappropriate behavior: Some visitors report isolated incidents of harassment or people behaving oddly. While most beachgoers are respectful, not everyone is.
- Limited breeze and can get very hot: Trees block much of the wind, making parts of the cove feel humid and sweaty. Shade can be found but is limited.
- Petty theft risk: Reports from hikers mention bags being stolen near the mangroves by small groups operating between Les Salines and Petite Anse. Never leave belongings unattended.
The Naked Truth
Petite Anse des Salines lives in a grey zone; and that’s exactly why people come. It’s calmer, prettier, and far more intimate than Grande Anse des Salines, with soft sand, clear water, and a tucked-away feel that invites quiet nudity rather than spectacle. For years, discreet naturism, especially among respectful, low-key visitors; has been tolerated, and in the early morning or late afternoon it can feel like a gentle, unspoken agreement between everyone present. This is a great naturist location on Martinique.
But this is not a protected naturist space. Tolerance can shift, police do occasionally enforce the law, and nudity here depends on timing, discretion, and reading the room. The mix of nude and clothed visitors means surprises; for families, for hikers, and sometimes for naturists themselves. Add heat, limited breeze, and the risk of petty theft, and it’s clear this beach rewards awareness. Petite Anse des Salines is best for people who value serenity over certainty. If you expect legality, enforcement, or exclusivity, this beautiful little cove can quickly feel exposed.
Insider Tip
If nudity makes you uncomfortable, stick closer to the main trail area where clothed beachgoers gather. For access, the Anse Meunier route is more shaded and peaceful than the Les Salines path.
Who's Here
Mostly quiet naturists, gay-friendly visitors, hikers from the Trace des Caps, and couples seeking a calm cove. Local families still occasionally visit but may stay only briefly due to nudity or lack of facilities. Expect a mixed nude/clothed population.
Beach Surface
Soft, fine white sand with patches of shade under palm trees and coastal vegetation. Clear water and gentle sloping entry along most of the shore.
Access Difficulty
Easy to moderate: From Les Salines, ~10-minute coastal walk; exposed and hot. From Anse Meunier: ~900 m shaded trail; path is rough but pleasant.
