Nudity Policy
OPTIONALNudity is optional (left side; not officially designated)
The Good
- Wild, secluded paradise (when conditions allow): Anse Trabaud can feel like a remote, untouched escape with expansive views and minimal crowds.
- Sense of total isolation: Because of the difficult access, very few people make it here, meaning that when weather and seaweed conditions are favorable, you can feel completely alone on the beach; a true “lost in nature” experience.
- Ideal for naturism in quiet seasons: Nudity is tolerated, particularly on the left-hand side of the beach, though not officially designated. When few people are present, it’s used discreetly by naturists. Also occasionally used by wave lovers.
- Great wave play (for experienced swimmers): The Atlantic exposure brings decent rolling waves when seaweed is minimal. Some describe enjoyable paddling near the shore; others ride waves further out (though with caution). It's truly one of the best naturist beaches in Martinique.
- Direct walkable access from Les Salines: The beach can also be reached via a scenic hike from Les Salines through Savane des Pétrifications (~1 h 30 min at a good pace). This route avoids the drive and is often considered more rewarding.
The Bad
- Highly unreliable conditions seaweed (sargassum) often ruins the experience: Multiple reports mention heavy sargassum accumulations, causing unbearable smells, lost sand coverage, and sometimes hazardous walking conditions. It can extend up to the access road.
- Terrible access road: Requires driving 3-4 km over gravel, deep potholes, or flooded sections, with a further 1 km on foot through mud or mangroves depending on season. Low vehicles are strongly discouraged — a 4×4 is recommended if driving. Some have turned back mid-way.
- Mud crossing at the end; unpleasant and unsanitary: Reaching the beach often involves crossing muddy, slippery, foul-smelling swamp terrain, sometimes knee-deep. One visitor described it as “nauseating, disgusting… arrived at the beach covered in mud.”
- €2.50 - €3 toll without prior condition disclosure: You must pay at the farmer’s tollgate (cash only), but owners reportedly do not warn about poor beach conditions, sargassum, or mud. No refund if the beach is unusable.
The Naked Truth
Anse Trabaud is truly one of the authentic nude beaches in the Caribbean as it's either unforgettable; or absolutely miserable, and which one you get depends almost entirely on conditions and access choices. When the beach is clear of sargassum and you arrive on foot, it can feel like the end of the world: vast, empty, wind-swept, and silent, with space enough to be nude without anyone caring. In those rare moments, discreet naturism on the left side feels natural and unproblematic, simply part of being alone in a raw Atlantic landscape.
But most of the time, this beach does not reward casual effort. The road is brutal, the mud crossing is genuinely unpleasant, and heavy seaweed can turn the place into a foul-smelling wasteland; after you’ve paid to enter. There is no honesty at the toll, no warning, and no refund. Driving in without a 4×4 is a gamble many regret. Anse Trabaud only works if you hike in from Les Salines, check conditions beforehand, and accept that nudity here is tolerated by absence, not protected by culture or law. If you expect comfort, certainty, or even consistency, this beach will punish you. If you’re prepared, patient, and lucky, it can feel like true exile in nature.
Insider Tip
If you decide to visit, check recent seaweed conditions in advance, ideally via local reports. Do NOT drive unless you have a 4×4. The recommended option is to hike from Les Salines through the Savane des Pétrifications trail (scenic, dry path) to reach Anse Trabaud.
Who's Here
Mostly solo travelers, naturists (discreet), adventurers, and wave enthusiasts willing to endure the journey. Few locals.
Beach Surface
Fine white sand in clear parts, but often covered by dried and rotting sargassum, especially on the left of the cove.
Access Difficulty
It is very difficult. Alternative hike: More enjoyable and safer; via Les Salines trail, approx. 1.5-hour scenic walk through Savane des Pétrifications.

Getting There
Located on the southern coast of Martinique in an isolated natural area near Pointe Baham, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
By Car (not recommended unless 4×4): From D9 road, follow signs toward Anse Trabaud. Continue along the rough dirt road for 3–4 km, paying €3 for access at the farmer’s property. After parking, walk approximately 100 meters through mud and mangrove trail before reaching sand.
On Foot (recommended): Park at Plage des Salines, then hike via Savane des Pétrifications trail. Allow 1–1.5 hours one-way. Scenic and dry compared to vehicle mud crossing.
By Taxi: Most taxis will refuse direct beach access via the dirt road. Better option is drop-off at Les Salines, then hike.
