Nudity is common in right end of the beach

The Good

  • Wild, quiet, and deeply atmospheric: Plage de Boom Défense is one of those places that feels untouched and slightly forgotten. The silence, open space, and raw coastline make it incredibly relaxing.
  • Exceptional sunsets and sunrises: This is one of the standout sunset spots in the Gaspé area. The shifting colors over the water are spectacular and make evening picnics unforgettable.
  • Rich natural environment: This naturist beach in Canada is backed by distinctive coastal vegetation and is home to a wide variety of birds. At dusk, you may spot seals, along with crabs and lobsters near the shoreline.
  • Great for fishing and simple camping: Striped bass fishing is popular here, and backpackers often consider this one of the best low-key places to camp in Gaspé. Driftwood is plentiful and often used for campfires.
  • Strong sense of history: This area was once a military defense post, built to counter German submarines during wartime. Remnants of this past add to the place’s character.

The Bad

  • Not accessible for everyone: The access road is very steep and rough, requiring a 4-wheel drive. Without one, walking is the only option.
  • No facilities: There are no toilets, showers, or garbage bins, which contributes to visible waste such as old campfire remains, cans, and debris along the shore.
  • Camping controversy: Although many campers are respectful, signage prohibiting camping exists and enforcement can be inconsistent, creating uncertainty for visitors.
  • Untamed shoreline: This is not a groomed beach. Expect remnants of past fires, driftwood piles, and uneven terrain.
  • Dogs and dog waste: Dogs are common here, and unfortunately so is unattended dog poop in some areas.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Plage de Boom Défense is raw Gaspésie, not a beach park. It’s quiet, windy, and atmospheric, with just enough human trace to remind you people once used this place for survival and defense; not leisure. If you like wild edges, history, fishing lines at dusk, and fires in the driftwood (where tolerated), this place hits hard.

Nudity is common here but it can be very textile heavy at times, but no one cares. Even though it’s remote there is a mix of anglers, dog walkers, campers, and passers-by. The lack of facilities means you must be fully self-reliant and respectful because nothing is maintained or cleaned for you. Come for sunsets, silence, and solitude, not comfort.

Insider Tip

If you plan to camp or stay late, bring everything you need and take everything back out with you. Visiting midweek or outside peak summer offers the quietest experience.

Who's Here

A mix of naturist locals, backpackers, cyclists, discreet campers, anglers, dog owners, and nature lovers. The atmosphere is generally respectful and calm.

Beach Surface

Mostly sandy shoreline mixed with driftwood, shells, and natural debris, with a pleasant seabed once in the water. The beach feels raw and natural rather than polished.

Access Difficulty

Moderate to difficult: Easy if you walk and are comfortable with uneven ground, difficult by vehicle unless properly equipped.
