The Good

  • Exceptional wildlife encounters: Plage de Cap-aux-Oies is a dream for nature lovers. Seals, belugas (including mother and calf pairs), gulls, cormorants, common eiders, and even rare sightings like king eiders have been spotted here, especially at low tide.
  • Quiet, untouched atmosphere: This beach is peaceful and rarely crowded. Many visits feel almost private, making it ideal for slow walks, reflection, and escaping busier Charlevoix stops.
  • Perfect for walking and exploration: At low tide, this naturist beach in Quebec, Canada opens wide and allows long, uninterrupted walks over small rocks, pebbles, and exposed shoreline, rather than mud.
  • Beautiful scenery with character: The surrounding mountains, the open St. Lawrence, driftwood-strewn shore, and the Charlevoix train passing along the embankment give the place a unique charm.
  • Free and easy access: Parking is free, and the beach is reached via stairs directly from the lot when seasonal steps are installed.

The Bad

  • Not a classic swimming beach: The water is very cold, and the rocky shoreline makes swimming less appealing. This is more of a walking and nature-watching beach.
  • Rocky and wild, not manicured: Expect rocks, seaweed, driftwood, and an uneven shoreline. Those looking for soft sand and services may be disappointed.
  • Limited parking: The small parking lots fill quickly. Street parking is sometimes necessary.
  • Seasonal access challenges: Outside summer, stairs may not be installed, making access more difficult, especially with dogs or mobility limitations.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Plage de Cap-aux-Oies is a nature-first beach, not a leisure one. You come here to watch seals and belugas, walk for an hour without seeing anyone, and feel the St. Lawrence breathing; not to swim, sunbathe comfortably, or hang out all day. It’s rocky, cold, and raw, and that’s exactly why people love it.

Nudity is unofficial and occasional. Most days it’s fully textile; on very quiet days, you might encounter discreet naturists keeping to themselves. This spot shines at low tide and rewards patience and timing. If you expect sand, warmth, or services, you’ll be disappointed. If you want wildlife, silence, and space, it’s special.

Insider Tip

Visit during low tide for the best walking conditions, wildlife sightings, and beach space. Early morning or late afternoon offers the most tranquility.

Who's Here

Mostly locals, couples, birdwatchers, photographers, dog walkers, and travelers exploring Charlevoix. If stripping off - the quieter sections are normally where naturists go.

Beach Surface

A mix of small stones, pebbles, rocky points, driftwood, and limited sandy patches. Comfortable for walking but less suited for swimming.

Access Difficulty

Easy to moderate: Simple access in summer, slightly challenging outside peak season due to stairs and rocky terrain.
