The Good

The Bad
- Difficult vehicle access: Roads can be rough, sandy, or uneven; low-clearance cars may struggle.
- No facilities at all: Completely undeveloped; bring everything you need.
- Steep water entry: Depth increases quickly, which can be risky for children or weak swimmers.
- Pebbles in the water: Water shoes are highly recommended for comfort and safety.
- Exposure to wind: The open Camargue coastline can become windy.
The Naked Truth
Plage de la Réserve is a raw, nature-first beach experience rather than a typical French Riviera destination. The landscape is beautiful and peaceful, but access takes effort, and conditions are basic. You won’t find restaurants, loungers, or amenities; just sea, sand, and wildlife. That simplicity is exactly why many visitors love it.
Naturism exists here informally rather than officially, usually toward quieter sections away from main access points. The crowd tends to be relaxed, respectful, and mixed between clothed and unclothed visitors. If you’re comfortable with a wild beach and minimal services, it can feel like a hidden Mediterranean escape. This is a recommended naturist beach in France.

Bring water shoes and arrive earlier in the day, both for calmer winds and easier parking along Digue à la Mer.

Getting There
Plage de la Réserve is a remote wild beach in the Camargue, accessed from the Digue à la Mer near the Phare de la Gacholle, east of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
By Car: Drive toward the Camargue / Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer area and head for Parking de la Gacholle, also known as Parking de la Comtesse, near the Phare de la Gacholle. From there, continue on foot or by bike along the Digue à la Mer. Vehicle access does not continue directly to the beach.
By Foot or Bike: From Parking de la Gacholle, follow the Digue à la Mer past the Phare de la Gacholle. Continue for around 2–3 km beyond the lighthouse until you reach the signed path on the left leading toward the beach. Stay on marked paths, as the dunes and surrounding reserve areas are protected.
By Public Transportation: There is no direct public transport to the beach itself. The nearest practical base is Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. From there, continue by taxi, bicycle, or a long walk along the Digue à la Mer route.
