The Good

  • Vast and untamed beach: Pissevaches naturist beach offers a long, wide stretch of fine sand with plenty of space to find a quiet spot, perfect if you're looking for solitude.
  • Free parking: Conveniently located near the tennis courts and sailing school, parking is free, which is a nice bonus for a beach this secluded.
  • Nature lovers' paradise: The nearby lake of Pissevaches offers opportunities for birdwatching, particularly migratory birds such as flamingos and egrets.
  • Relaxed atmosphere: The nude section is well-tolerated and accepted, with a tranquil vibe that appeals to those who prefer a quieter, more natural experience.
  • Unspoiled surroundings: With no buildings in sight, this beach has a wild, raw beauty.

The Bad

  • Lack of facilities: There are no amenities like showers, food stands, or toilets near the naturist section, so be prepared to pack everything you’ll need for the day.
  • Not well-maintained: Several visitors note that the beach is not regularly cleaned, particularly when compared to other nearby beaches like Port-Leucate or Sérignan, which could detract from the overall experience.
  • Long walk to the beach: You’ll need to walk about 630 meters from the parking area, which may be challenging for some, especially in the heat.
  • Limited signage: The naturist section is only marked by a small sign, making it somewhat confusing for first-time visitors to navigate.
  • Proximity to textile areas: With the beach flanked by two textile areas, there’s always a chance of passersby or a mix of beachgoers that may disrupt the naturist atmosphere.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Plage de Pissevaches is a secluded, peaceful nude beach perfect for those who appreciate the raw, untouched beauty of nature. It offers a wild, relaxed environment with plenty of space to find your own secluded spot, but you’ll need to come prepared as there are no facilities or nearby services. The beach’s lack of maintenance might be a downside for some, especially when compared to more well-kept beaches like Port-Leucate, but for true nude beach purists, its untamed charm and birdwatching opportunities more than make up for it.

Our Visit

We visited Pissevache Naturist Beach, along with Plage des Cabanes de Fleury, and it turned out to be one of the most unique experiences we’ve had at a nude beach in France. What makes this beach stand out is how it’s separated from the nearby Cabanes de Fleury by a small strip of textile beach, which was quite strange to witness. It’s like you’re fully immersed in the naturist atmosphere, and then suddenly you come across a patch of clothed beachgoers. Honestly, we found it amusing more than anything else!

The beach itself is largely clothing optional, and it was very relaxing from the moment we arrived. Pissevaches has an official status, so getting naked here felt totally natural. We had no hesitation stripping down, and neither did most of the other visitors. The day we went, it was mostly older couples and young families, and there was a calm, welcoming vibe all around. The beach has a very wild feel to it—just open sand and sea, with no buildings or development in sight. You can easily forget that you're so close to civilization.

Historically, this beach used to be directly linked to the La Grande Cosse naturist campground, but when the campground was bought by a textile chain in 2017, they closed off the direct access for naturists. Now, this area is bordered by two naturist beaches on either side of the textile beach. It’s a bit of a funny setup, but the naturist part still feels very spacious and free. The beach stretches far enough that you can easily find a peaceful spot to relax without feeling crowded.

One thing we did notice was the occasional groups of textiles walking along the beach. They didn’t seem fazed by the nudity, and none of the naturists, including us, seemed concerned either. It’s something you just get used to, though I’ll admit it does feel a little odd when you’re enjoying the freedom of naturism, and someone fully clothed strolls past. Still, it didn’t detract from our overall experience.

The one downside, if you can even call it that, is the lack of nearby facilities. There’s no food, no drinks, and not even bathrooms close by, which makes for a bit of an inconvenience. You need to bring everything with you—plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen—because you won’t find anything here. That said, it adds to the wild and untouched charm of Pissevaches. There’s something lovely about just being surrounded by nature, with no commercial distractions.

In the end, we had a lovely, peaceful day at Plage de Pissevache. The natural beauty and quiet atmosphere made it a perfect spot to unwind. If you’re a fan of wild, undeveloped beaches and don’t mind packing your own supplies, this place is definitely worth a visit. We’d recommend it to any naturist looking for a serene, laid-back experience.

Getting There

Reaching Plage de Pissevaches can be a bit of an adventure, but it's worth it if you're looking for a secluded spot.

By Car: From the north, join the “chemin de la Draye des Chaudières” heading towards Saint-Pierre-la-Mer. As soon as you see the sign indicating the beginning of the village, "Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, commune de Fleury d'Aude," take the first left at the sign that says "Plage naturiste." Follow this road, passing between a camper van area on your left and a municipal campsite on your right. Continue straight until you reach the parking lot located near the tennis courts and sailing school. From there, it’s a 630-meter walk along a path that borders the lake of Pissevaches before you’ll see the small sign marking the start of the naturist beach.

By Public Transport: Unfortunately, there are no direct public transport options to the nude beach itself. However, you can reach Saint-Pierre-la-Mer by bus from nearby towns like Narbonne. Once you arrive in Saint-Pierre, you’ll need to walk or take a short taxi ride to the car park near the beach and follow the walking directions to the naturist area.

Recommended Accommodation

The closest accommodation is Camping Municipal Pissevaches, the city’s official campground. You’ll also find plenty of other options nearby, including some great Vrbo apartments and houses in Saint-Pierre-la-Mer.
