Nudity expected but mixed

The Good

  • Wild hidden cove: Gros Cap sits tucked beneath cliffs along the northern coast, completely out of sight from the road. It feels remote and untouched once you reach the sand.
  • Golden sand and blue water: The beach itself is visually striking, with warm sand and bright blue water that contrasts sharply with the rugged coastline.
  • Low crowd density: It’s rarely crowded due to the difficult access. Even on good days, you’ll usually find space to yourself.
  • Naturist friendly setting: Nudity is common here, especially in quieter moments. It’s one of the lesser known clothing optional spots on the island.
  • Raw natural atmosphere: No development, no structures, just cliffs, sea, and open space. It gives a strong sense of being somewhere off the map.
  • Dramatic views on arrival: The descent opens up to a wide coastal view that feels rewarding after the effort of getting down.

The Bad

  • Difficult and unsafe access: Reaching the beach involves finding an unmarked path and descending a steep, uneven trail. Some sections feel unstable and require care.
  • Strong currents and rough sea: Swimming can be challenging due to waves, rocks, and currents. It’s not a safe place for casual or inexperienced swimmers.
  • No signage or clear entry: The trailhead is not obvious and often located away from the map pin. It’s easy to get lost or take the wrong path.
  • Parking complications: You have to park along the road and walk, sometimes a few hundred meters, without proper pedestrian space.
  • Safety concerns with behavior: Multiple reports mention inappropriate or aggressive behavior from some individuals, especially later in the day.
  • Not suitable for solo visitors: Due to isolation, access difficulty, and reported incidents, it’s not recommended to come alone or with children.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Gros Cap is one of those beaches that feels properly off the radar. There’s very little from the road to suggest what’s below, and once you make your way down, the cliffs and isolation make it feel much more remote than it actually is.

The setting is easily the best part. It’s wild, quiet and scenic, with plenty of space to spread out. Naturism here feels informal rather than organised, and there aren’t really any facilities or structure around it.

The one thing to know is that the atmosphere can vary depending on who else is there. On a good day, it feels peaceful and completely removed from everything. On others, it can feel a little less comfortable. We’d still come for the setting, but it’s probably better suited to experienced naturists than someone looking for a polished first-time nude beach on Guadeloupe.

Insider Tip

Go earlier in the day and avoid late afternoon when the atmosphere can shift. Visit with others rather than alone, bring proper footwear for the descent, and only swim if conditions are calm. Make sure your phone is charged since navigation and exit paths are not clearly marked.

Who's Here

A mix of naturists, couples, and a noticeable presence of solo men, with the crowd changing depending on the time of day.

Beach Surface

Soft sand mixed with rocky sections, especially near the waterline and edges of the cove.

Access Difficulty

Difficult due to the unmarked trail, steep descent, and roadside approach without clear access points.

Getting There

Plage Gros Cap is located along the N2 road in Sainte-Rose on the northern coast of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe.

By car or on foot: Drive along the N2 and park carefully along the roadside, usually a few hundred meters from the actual beach point. Walk along the road until you find a narrow path through the bushes, then descend the steep trail to the beach.

By public transport: There is no direct public transport access to the beach. You would need to take a bus to Sainte-Rose and then walk a long distance along the N2, which is not ideal due to lack of sidewalks.
