The Good
- Natural protected swimming pool: A rocky barrier offshore creates calmer water in good conditions, making swimming gentler than many Atlantic-facing beaches.
- Excellent snorkeling near shore: Fish often gather close to the rocks, so you can see marine life without swimming far.
- Very quiet atmosphere: Compared to nearby Grande Anse, this beach feels hidden and peaceful, especially early in the day.
- Lush tropical setting: Access through forest vegetation adds to the feeling of discovering a secret spot.
- Mixed sand texture: Coarse sand, shells, and coral fragments create a wild, natural feel rather than a groomed beach.
- Low visitor numbers: Even during busier seasons, it rarely feels crowded.
The Bad
- Confusing nudist status: Despite the name, many visitors report few or no naturists, especially during peak hours or weekends.
- Steep, rough access path: The trail can be uneven with debris, exposed metal, and makeshift handholds using pipes or cables.
- Shoes required: Barefoot access is uncomfortable due to rocks, coral fragments, and uneven ground.
- Limited protection in rough weather: The natural rock barrier is less effective when waves are strong.
- No facilities at all: No toilets, food, shade structures, or services.
- Occasional uncomfortable attention: Some visitors, especially women, mention feeling watched due to low nudist familiarity in the area.
- Crowds increase later in the day: Families sometimes arrive in the afternoon, changing the atmosphere.
The Naked Truth
This is one of those beaches where the “naturist” label doesn’t fully match reality. Nudity does happen here, but it’s inconsistent; more common early in the morning or farther from the main entry area, and sometimes not present at all. Many visitors treat it simply as a quiet hidden beach rather than a dedicated nude destination. There is another naturist beach beside this beach - Plage Gros Cap.
What makes Plage Naturiste de la Pointe du Vieux Fort special is the sense of isolation and the natural swimming pool formed by the reef, possibly the opportunity to strip off. If you arrive expecting a clearly defined naturist community, you might be disappointed. But if you want a peaceful, semi-secret tropical beach where clothing-optional is possible when the vibe feels right, it can be a very rewarding spot. It is a decent option for a nude beach in Guadeloupe.
Insider Tip
Go early morning on weekdays for the quietest atmosphere and the highest chance of naturist-friendly conditions. Bring water shoes for both the trail and shoreline.
Who's Here
Couples, independent travelers, occasional naturists, locals, and small groups. Families sometimes appear later in the day.
Beach Surface
Mixed coarse sand, coral fragments, shells, and rocky sections. The water entry varies from sandy to rocky depending on tide and location.
Access Difficulty
Moderate: The walk is short but uneven, with a slightly steep forest descent and improvised handholds near the final section.

Getting There
Plage Naturiste de la Pointe du Vieux Fort is located near Deshaies on the northwest coast of Guadeloupe, not far from the Fort Royal hotel area.
By Car: Drive toward Deshaies and continue toward the Pointe du Vieux Fort area. Park in the small roadside spaces near the forest entrance. From the parking area, locate the narrow path entering the vegetation. Follow the left-hand trail until you see electrical pipes or cables hanging between trees; these act as handholds marking the final descent to the beach.
By Foot The walk from parking takes about 5–10 minutes through forest terrain. Wear proper footwear, as parts of the path are uneven and can be slippery.
By Public Transport: There is no direct public transportation to the beach. Access requires a car followed by a short walk.
