Nudity Policy

OPTIONAL

Nudity is expected but optional (established naturist beach)

The Good

  • Wide, wild coastline: Huge stretch of clean, fine sand backed by dunes and natural vegetation. Open, peaceful, and beautifully raw, a true Atlantic naturist setting.
  • Relaxed, respectful atmosphere: Many describe it as calm, friendly, and safe. People leave belongings on the sand without worry; respectful naturist culture with a mostly local crowd.
  • Pure nature feel: Quiet dunes, gentle slope into the ocean, starfish and marine life at the waterline, and long horizon views. No commercial feel at all.
  • Great for wave play, not swimming: Even though swimming is prohibited due to dangerous currents, people enjoy wading, splashing, and playing safely in the surf near shore.

The Bad

  • Swimming prohibited: Strong rip currents and “washing machine” shore break mean no swimming. Signs clearly warn; drowning risk is real. Waves can knock you down.
  • Long walk through dunes: 400–500m walk from parking through sand and open heath; no shade and not accessible for everyone. Bikes are common due to distance.
  • Mixed crowd shifts: Mostly naturists, often older couples, but reports of single men wandering or parking-lot watchers at times. The atmosphere can vary by time and season.
  • No services at all: No toilets, showers, bins, or lifeguards. Bring everything: water, snacks, bags for waste, sun protection. Respect dune fencing and plover nesting zones.
  • Can feel exposed: Wind common, sun constant, and no natural shade. Parking has a height barrier; gets crowded by afternoon.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Plage du Petit Pont is a classic Vendée naturist beach - long, natural, peaceful, and deeply loved by respectful local naturists. It offers a pure nature experience where you can sunbathe freely, feel safe leaving your things, and enjoy the wild Atlantic while sharing space with friendly regulars who value freedom and tranquility. At its best, it feels like a naturist paradise.

The trade-off: this is a no-swimming beach. Waves can be powerful, and currents make real bathing dangerous. Add a sandy hike in, no facilities, and occasional voyeurish presence near parking areas, and it’s a spot best suited to experienced naturists who value space, nature, and calm. Come prepared, respect the dunes, and enjoy one of the the most natural clothing-optional coastlines in France.

Insider Tip

Official naturist area, signposted near parking. Stay in the designated zone. No swimming - stick to wading and wave play at the edge.

Who's Here

Local naturists, older couples, occasional families, and solo men. Atmosphere generally respectful; vibe may shift depending on time of day

Beach Surface

Fine sand, clean water, dunes behind. Strong surf, deep drop-offs, and dangerous currents. Jellyfish possible. Excellent natural feel; clear water on calm days.

Access Difficulty

Moderate: sandy walk (≈400–500m) through dunes; no shade. Not wheelchair-accessible. Bikes are common. Parking fills by afternoon.

Getting There

Located near Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez in Vendée, west coast of France.

By Car: Drive toward Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez and follow signs for Petit Pont / Plage Naturiste. Free parking near the dune entrance (height barrier). From the lot, follow marked paths through the sand toward the ocean; stay on trails to protect dunes. The naturist section is clearly signposted at the access.

By Public Transport: Take a local bus to Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez (summer routes operate from nearby towns including Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie). Walk or cycle the coastal route toward Petit Pont dunes; then follow a signed footpath to the naturist area. Allow time - the final stretch is sandy and open.
