Nudity Policy

OPTIONAL

Nudity expected (clearly marked naturist area)

The Good

  • Large, sandy naturist beach: One of the rare natural sandy beaches in the region. Pebble-free sand and a long shoreline make it comfortable for sunbathing and swimming sans clothing.
  • Crystal-clear shallow water: Ideal for swimming due to the mild depth and low waves. Pleasant water temperature and soft sea conditions.
  • Easy to access and well-indicated naturist zone: The naturist section is on the northern end of the beach, clearly marked by signage near the river mouth. Completely clothing-optional.
  • Good parking availability: Multiple paid parking areas on either side of the access road. Close walking distance (1–2 minutes) to the beach section adjacent to bars.
  • Dog-friendly areas: Dogs are welcome in designated zones. Considered one of the nicest beaches for dog owners.
  • Nearby beach bars and services: While the naturist area itself has no bar, nearby beach bars (e.g., Bambusa Beach) offer snacks, drinks, and sunbed rentals.

The Bad

  • Cleanliness varies by season: Some visitors report branches, driftwood, construction debris, and lack of recent beach cleaning. One long-time visitor noted deterioration since 1983.
  • Naturist zone is not fully exclusive: While marked, clothed visitors may still pass through. Nudity is “allowed but not enforced”.
  • Limited natural shade: Most of the beach is fully exposed - must bring a parasol for comfort.
  • Occasional driftwood and plywood hazards: Sturdy footwear recommended during access through sand. Can impact walking in certain sections.
  • Recent relocation of naturist area (2024): The previous naturist section reportedly moved slightly to, and the newer zone no longer has showers.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

The naturist section of Plage des Esclamandes is easy, sandy, and permissive; but not deeply protected. What makes it special is also what makes it fragile: it’s one of the very few large, natural sandy naturist beaches on the Côte d’Azur, with shallow water and space to stretch out nude without balancing on pebbles. For many naturists, that alone is gold. Access is effortless, parking is close, and the signage makes it clear that nudity belongs here.

But this is not a sealed-off naturist enclave. The zone is allowed, not enforced, and that means clothed walkers, dog owners, and curious passers-by will drift through; especially in high season. Cleanliness can be hit-or-miss, shade is nonexistent, and since the 2024 relocation the facilities are thinner than before. This beach works best if you accept its shared-use reality: go farther north, bring your own parasol, and keep expectations realistic. If you want soft sand, warm water, and low-effort naturism, Esclamandes delivers. If you want exclusivity, control, or a “100% nude bubble,” you may leave wanting more.

Insider Tip

Avoid crossing the Argens River when currents are strong. For the best naturist experience, head to the northern section away from Bambusa Beach, near the river mouth.

Who's Here

Naturists, textile beachgoers, kitesurfers, dog walkers, and mixed visitors. Many mention an open-minded context where everyone feels accepted.

Beach Surface

Fine sandy beach, pebble-free. Clear but occasionally murky waters depending on tides. Driftwood occasionally presents. Flat and accessible for towel placement.

Access Difficulty

Easy: Short, level walk from parking or campsite. No steep paths. Some areas closer to the naturist section may involve minor sand-hiking or navigating small driftwood patches.
