The Good
- Established Naturist Area: The naturist section is at the far southern end of Plaka Beach, beyond the organized beach clubs and sunbed areas. Once you reach this quieter stretch, the atmosphere becomes noticeably more relaxed and naturism is widely accepted.
- Soft Golden Sand: Unlike many Greek naturist beaches, the shoreline here is almost entirely soft sand. It is comfortable for walking barefoot and spending the whole day on the beach.
- Beautiful Clear Water: The sea is shallow near the shore before gradually becoming deeper, with exceptionally clear turquoise water that is perfect for long swims.
- Plenty Of Space: The southern naturist section is broad and open, allowing visitors to spread out comfortably even during the busy summer season.
- Natural Dunes: Low sand dunes and native vegetation separate parts of the beach from the road, giving the naturist section a greater sense of privacy without feeling isolated.
- Relaxed Community: The atmosphere is respectful and unhurried, attracting regular naturists who appreciate the beach for its simplicity rather than organized entertainment.
The Bad
- Long Walk: Reaching the naturist section requires walking well beyond the organized part of Plaka Beach. The farther south you go, the quieter it becomes.
- Little Shade: There are no umbrellas or permanent shade structures in the naturist area. Bringing your own beach shelter is highly recommended.
- Few Facilities: Once you are at the naturist end, there are no toilets, showers, or food services within easy reach. It is best to bring everything you need before settling in.
- Afternoon Wind: The Meltemi wind can become strong during summer afternoons, making umbrellas difficult to secure without proper anchors.
- Hot Sand: During peak summer, the sand becomes extremely hot around midday, so sandals are useful for walking.
The Naked Truth
Plaka Beach is one of those gorgeous stretches of coastline that reminds you why the Greek islands are so special. Located on Naxos, this seemingly endless beach has soft golden sand, crystal-clear Aegean water and plenty of room to find your own little slice of paradise. While the northern sections are popular with holidaymakers, beach bars and sun loungers, keep wandering south and things start to feel a lot more relaxed. The crowds thin out, the sunbeds disappear, and you'll eventually reach the quieter stretches where naturists have been enjoying the sunshine for decades. There's no official nude beach sign, just a gradual transition to a more clothing-optional atmosphere.
What we love about Plaka is that you don't have to sacrifice a beautiful beach to enjoy a bit of freedom. The sand is soft, the water is wonderfully inviting, and there's enough space to spread out without feeling like you're sitting on top of everyone else. It's not exclusively naturist, particularly during the busy summer months, but the southern end has a long history of nude sunbathing and generally attracts a pretty laid-back crowd. Of all the Greek nude beaches, Plaka is a great option for anyone who loves a long, lazy beach day without too much fuss. Pack some water, find your spot and don't be surprised if you end up staying until sunset!
Insider Tip
Walk all the way to the southern end before choosing a spot, as this is where the established naturist section begins. Bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and your own shade because there are very few facilities once you leave the organized beach behind. Early morning and late afternoon offer the most comfortable temperatures.
Who's Here
Mostly longtime naturists, independent travelers, couples, solo visitors, and returning Naxos regulars looking for one of the island's best known clothing-optional beaches.
Beach Surface
Soft golden sand stretches across the naturist section with very few stones, making it one of the most comfortable beaches in the Cyclades.
Access Difficulty
Easy, with a short walk from nearby roadside parking followed by a longer walk south along the shoreline to reach the naturist section.
