The Good

  • Private Feel: A very cute alcove that feels private and snug. There is limited view into the beach except from the boardwalk wrapped around the residence apartments high up the cliffs.
  • Excellent Beach Bar: The food at the beach bar is really good, and the staff are always very friendly and easy to speak to.
  • Accessible: Accessible via public transport, with a short walk from the bus stop.
  • Friendly Regulars: The beach has a lot of regular visitors, contributing to a familiar and friendly atmosphere.

The Bad

  • Crowded: The beach can get very crowded, and you might find yourself too close to others. Finding a good spot to squeeze your blanket in might get tricky.
  • No Shade: There’s no shade from palm trees or similar, making the alcove feel like an oven. Bring an umbrella if you can!
  • Close Quarters: This is an intimate, small beach, and while most people are respectful, the regulars tend to be less mindful and plant themselves closer than most would be comfortable with.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Playa de Benalnatura is a super cozy beach, but it’s small, and you might end up blanket-to-blanket, spending more time averting your eyes than relaxing. It might not make your top 5 list, but it's worth a visit for its unique charm and friendly atmosphere.

Insider Tip

Go earlier rather than later as the beach fills up quickly during high season! Book a table at the beach bar in advance or on arrival.

Our Visit

The entrance to Playa de Benalnatura is quite enchanting, offering a sense of privacy with limited views into the beach area. There are lots of nude beaches in Spain, but this is one of the more well known. Upon arrival, the first thing that struck us was the cozy and intimate setting. The beach is nestled within a charming alcove, creating a snug and private atmosphere that makes you feel like you've found a hidden gem. The only visible area is from the boardwalk wrapped around the residential apartments high up the cliffs, adding to the secluded feel.

Before settling down, we recommend stopping by the Benalnatura Beach Bar. The food here is exceptional, with fresh produce and a menu that caters to a variety of tastes. The staff are always friendly and approachable, making it a pleasant experience from the start. Given how popular the beach bar is, it’s wise to book a table in advance or speak to the staff as soon as you arrive to secure a spot in the shade. The bar not only provides a refuge from the sun but also offers a social hub where you can mingle with other beachgoers.

Playa de Benalnatura is a comfortable sand beach surrounded by high cliffs. The cliffs add to the picturesque scenery and provide some natural seating if you prefer to stay off the sand. The calm water is perfect for taking a dip when the sun gets too hot. However, it’s important to note that there is no natural shade from palm trees or other vegetation, so bringing an umbrella is essential. The alcove can feel like an oven on hot days, so having some form of shade can make a significant difference.

One of the unique aspects of Playa de Benalnatura is its regular visitors. The beach has a lot of regulars, contributing to a familiar and friendly atmosphere. While most people are respectful and keep to themselves, the regulars can sometimes be less mindful of personal space, planting themselves closer than you might be comfortable with. This is especially noticeable on busy days when the beach can get very crowded. Finding a good spot for your blanket can be tricky, and you might end up feeling a bit too close to others. Despite this, the overall vibe remains relaxed and welcoming.

The U-shaped beach layout offers some cliffs to sit on if you want to distance yourself from the crowd. While this provides a bit more privacy, it also places you in full view of others. Further down the cliffs, singles and couples might find more private spots to enjoy, but be aware that these areas are still visible. The lack of nearby shops or tiendas means once you find a good spot, you’ll be reluctant to give it up. Bringing cold water and snacks is advisable unless you’re happy to spend your money at the beach bar, which, while excellent, can be pricey.

As a single woman, I felt generally comfortable at Benalnatura, even though the beach is male-heavy. The atmosphere is friendly, and I had no issues except for one occasion when an insistent young man approached me asking if I wanted to have a drink . As always, it’s a good idea for women to bring a book or something to help stave off unwanted attention.

Overall, Playa de Benalnatura offers a unique, cozy, and intimate naturist experience. It’s a small, snug beach that provides a sense of seclusion and privacy, with the added convenience of a fantastic beach bar and friendly regulars. However, be prepared for the crowds and the need for some personal shade. Despite these minor drawbacks, it’s definitely worth a visit for its charm and friendly atmosphere.
