The Good
- Beautiful Natural Setting: Playa de la Tejita offers stunning views, particularly of Montaña Roja, making it one of the most picturesque beaches on Tenerife.
- Ample Space: This beach is vast and spacious, providing plenty of room to spread out, whether you prefer to be near others or seek more privacy.
- Convenient Amenities: Sunbeds and fixed parasols are available for rent at 15 euros per day, making it easy to relax without bringing your own gear.
- Proximity to Services: Though the beach itself is quite natural, nearby there are restaurants, shops, and toilets, especially in the northwest area.
The Bad
- Windy Conditions: Playa de la Tejita is known for strong winds, which can make sunbathing uncomfortable on certain days. The wind can whip the sand around, making it feel like you’re being sandblasted.
- Lack of Facilities: While there are some amenities near the northwest part of the beach, the beach itself lacks toilets and shops, so you’ll need to bring your own food, drinks, and other necessities.
- Parking Challenges: Although parking is generally available, it can be tricky during peak times, especially on windy days when the beach is less crowded.
- Difficult Swimming Conditions: The waves and currents can be strong, making swimming difficult and sometimes dangerous.
The Naked Truth
Playa de la Tejita is a must-visit for anyone seeking a true nude beach experience in Tenerife. With its vast expanse of sand and the striking Montaña Roja as a backdrop, it’s easy to see why this beach is so popular. The beach offers a balanced mix of nudists and textile beachgoers, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. While the winds can be challenging, particularly if you’re trying to sunbathe, the sheltered cove at the far end of the beach offers a perfect escape from the elements. The lack of on-site facilities means you’ll need to come prepared, but the nearby restaurants and shops can help with any last-minute needs. If you’re looking for a more peaceful spot, consider visiting during the week when it’s less crowded, or head to the hidden cove for a more secluded experience. Despite the occasional challenges, Playa de la Tejita is a gem in Tenerife’s crown, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, tranquility, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Insider Tip
Head to the far end of the beach, near Montaña Roja, and cross the small footbridge to find a hidden cove. This spot is more sheltered from the wind and tends to be quieter, offering a more relaxed and private experience.

Our Visit

We recently visited Playa de la Tejita with my girlfriend, who had never been to a nude beach before, and it turned out to be one of the best beach days we’ve had. Playa de la Tejita is a fantastic nude beach in the Canary Islands, located near Tenerife's southern airport. It’s a bit of a trek from the main resorts, but that’s part of what makes it special—this spot feels more like it is off the main drags, mostly frequented by locals rather than the usual tourist crowd.

We stocked up on supplies at a nearby strip mall before heading to the beach, which was a smart move because we didn’t see any vendors once we got there. As we arrived, the beach stretched out before us, framed by the impressive Montaña Roja. It’s a massive beach, so despite being a popular spot, there’s plenty of space for everyone. The split between nude and textile sunbathers was about 50/50, which felt very natural and relaxed—no one seemed to care what anyone else was doing, which is a vibe we’ve come to love about Europe.
We decided to splurge on a couple of sunbeds for 15 euros each for the day, and it was money well spent. Get there early to get the most bang for your bucks! The beach is beautiful, with soft sand and crystal-clear water that was perfect for swimming. My girlfriend was initially a bit nervous about going nude, but the laid-back atmosphere quickly put her at ease. Before long, she was comfortably enjoying the sun and sea in her natural state, and it was great to see her so relaxed.
One thing to note is that Playa de la Tejita can get really windy in the afternoon. We were warned about this, so we made sure to pack up before the wind really picked up and turned the sand into a bit of a sandblasting machine. That said, the breeze is nice earlier in the day and keeps things cool when the sun is at its peak. The sand dunes behind the beach are a nice backdrop but they really heat things up also. We noticed a nearby hotel called Ocean Beach Apartments, they are the closest accommodation to the beach and we might consider this next time (in saying that we haven't seen any reviews for this place yet).
Overall, I highly recommend Playa de la Tejita, especially if you’re looking for a relaxed and welcoming nude beach in Spain. It’s a great spot for first-timers like my girlfriend, who felt comfortable and at ease the entire time. We’re already planning our next visit!

Getting There
Playa de la Tejita is located near Tenerife's southern airport and is one of the largest sand beaches on the island. The beach is spacious, with a stunning view of the Montaña Roja ("Red Mountain"). If you want to explore the more secluded, nudist-friendly cove, follow the beach to the far east end. After reaching a low rocky outcropping near the beach bar and umbrellas, take a short walkway across the rocks to reach a hidden cove that is mostly frequented by nudists. This area is a great spot for a more peaceful experience away from the busier sections of the beach.
By Car:
Drive towards Tenerife South Airport (Reina Sofía) and take the exit towards El Médano. Follow the signs for Montaña Roja and Playa de la Tejita. There’s ample parking available about a 5-minute walk from the beach. From the parking area, simply walk towards the beach and head east to reach the nudist-friendly area near Montaña Roja.
By Public Transport:
You can take a bus from various locations in Tenerife to El Médano. From there, it’s a short taxi ride or a 30-minute walk to Playa de la Tejita. Buses are frequent, making it an accessible option for those without a car.
Recommended Accommodation
The closest accommodation to the beach is Villa Ocean Beach which is literally a 5min walk away and greats amazing reviews.
