Nudity Policy

OPTIONAL

Nudity is optional but expected (known clothing-optional beach)

The Good

  • That hidden, secret-beach feeling: Playa El Diario still feels like one of those places you only hear about from locals or seasoned beach explorers. It’s small, tucked away, and feels far from mass tourism.
  • Beautiful water when conditions are right: On calm days, the turquoise color is absolutely stunning, and the water temperature is surprisingly comfortable, making short swims very enjoyable.
  • Gentle waves (on good days): When the sea behaves, the waves are soft and relaxing rather than aggressive. It’s one of those places where you just float for a bit and disconnect.
  • Naturist-friendly atmosphere: This is widely known as a clothing-optional beach in Venezuela. People who come here usually understand the vibe and respect the naturist culture.
  • Great for a quiet, low-key escape: No music blasting, no tour groups, no chaos. It’s ideal if you want to sit with the sea, the sun, and your thoughts.

The Bad

  • The beach is literally disappearing: As of August 2024, the sea has eaten most of the sand. In some areas, there are only 4 to 5 meters of beach left. If the tent spot is gone, you may end up standing between rocks and water with nowhere to settle.
  • Getting there can feel not worth it anymore: Several visitors now say that after the effort it takes to reach Playa El Diario, the reality can be disappointing due to erosion. Some strongly suggest continuing toward Aroa instead.
  • Very limited space to relax: With so little usable sand left, it can feel cramped or simply impractical for laying out comfortably.
  • No real amenities: No restrooms, no restaurants, no rentals, no services. You must bring everything, and even then, space to actually use it is limited.
  • Rocky conditions: The same stones that give the place character are also part of the problem. Entry into the water can be tricky depending on tides.
Naked Truth

The Naked Truth

Playa El Diario has the looks of a quiet hidden beach, but in reality it’s not a true naturist haven, more a remote, low-key shore where nudity has been tolerated by some locals and occasional visitors, rather than a beach with an established or protected clothing-optional culture. Many people aren’t even aware of its nudist use, and given how small and changing the shoreline can be, trying to be nude front-and-center can feel awkward or draw attention rather than freedom.

Most visitors treat El Diario as a textile beach,: families, couples, hikers and locals come to enjoy the view, the relative peace, and the authentic coastal village vibe of nearby Puerto Colombia and Choroní; but it’s not typical to see widespread naturism here.

Insider Tip

If you’re already nearby and just curious, it’s worth a quick look. But if Playa El Diario is your main destination, manage your expectations. Due to erosion, many now recommend skipping it and heading toward Aroa or nearby beaches instead.

Who's Here

Naturists, solo beachgoers, couples seeking privacy, and a few curious travelers. It’s no longer a family beach simply because there’s barely enough shoreline left to function normally.

Beach Surface

A mix of small remaining sand patches and exposed rocks. The original sandy beach is largely gone. Water remains clear on good days, but access depends heavily on tide and swell.

Access Difficulty

Moderate: The beach is small and hidden, and with erosion, access changes depending on water level and recent wave activity.

Getting There

Playa El Diario is on the central Caribbean coast of Venezuela, near Puerto Colombia in Aragua State, not far from Choroní.

By Car: Drive from Maracay or Caracas toward Choroní (Henri Pittier National Park roads; scenic but winding). Continue toward Puerto Colombia. Signage is limited — locals may be the best guide; and roadside/ informal parking is typical near small access paths.

By Foot / Trail: From the parking near the town, walk toward the coast along unofficial paths down to the beach itself. Terrain can be uneven and changes with tides.

No buses run directly to this beach; reaching it requires car + short walk or joining a local tour/transport service.
