The Good
- Wild, powerful waterfall setting: Potter’s Falls is one of the more serene and dramatic waterfalls in the Finger Lakes region, surrounded by dense forest and rock formations that feel untouched.
- Clean water and immersive nature: The water is often clear, and on calm days some visitors wade or swim near the base. The area feels deeply natural and removed from development.
- Rewarding for experienced hikers: For those with proper gear and confidence, reaching the falls feels earned. The landscape is rugged, quiet, and absorbing, and we truly believe it's a magical naturist spot in the US to strip off.
- Beautiful approach up to a point: The trail from the Mulholland Wildflower Preserve is scenic and relatively easy until the second dam.
The Bad
- Extremely confusing access: There is no clear or safe official route for casual visitors. Google Maps frequently sends people to closed or illegal parking areas, including Six Mile Road, which is posted as no trespassing.
- Dangerous trail conditions: Past the second dam, the route becomes steep, narrow, root-covered, and unstable, with sections exposed to serious drop-offs. Fallen trees frequently block the path and can make it disappear entirely.
- Not safe for many visitors: This hike is not suitable for inexperienced hikers, solo hikers, children, or pets. Fear of heights is a serious limiting factor.
- Wildlife hazards: Snakes are commonly reported on rocks, under logs, and even in the water. Ground bees are also present and have caused multiple stings.
- No facilities or safety infrastructure: There are no signs, railings, or maintained viewpoints near the falls.
The Naked Truth
Potter’s Falls is not a destination waterfall for most people. It’s wild, unmaintained, and borderline hazardous. The payoff can be beautiful, but only if you’re experienced, properly equipped, and willing to turn back without regret. Many people never reach the falls; and that’s the smart decision.
Nudity is very well established here. The deep pool below the falls is a popular skinnydipping hole, and there are flat areas of rock for nude sunbathing. The biggest risk here isn’t crowds, it’s falls, slips, and getting stuck. If you want an easy Finger Lakes waterfall, go elsewhere. If you want a serious, unmarked hike with a clothing optional vibe - this is it.
Insider Tip
This is not a “quick waterfall stop.” Wear proper hiking boots, bring a trekking pole, avoid going alone, and turn back immediately if the trail narrows or becomes unstable.
Who's Here
Mostly experienced hikers, adventurous locals, and occasional photographers. Very few casual visitors make it all the way and nudity here is almost always guaranteed or expected.
Beach Surface
Steep dirt slopes, exposed roots, loose rocks, narrow cliffside paths, and fallen trees. Conditions change frequently after storms.
Access Difficulty
Difficult to hazardous: Route choice and personal experience level matter greatly.
