The first time we set foot on Praia da Galheta, it felt like stepping into paradise. With its pristine white sand, towering mountains, and crystal-clear waters teeming with sea life, it’s no wonder this beach holds the distinction of being Florianópolis’s only legally recognized public nude beach. Among the nude beaches in Brazil, Praia da Galheta shines as a gem, much like the renowned Tambaba Beach.
Everyone finds their place here. Couples, surfers, groups of friends, and even hikers are drawn to its beauty. While it’s a popular spot in the summer, its secluded nature, accentuated by a 20-minute walk from the main access points, makes us advise against visiting alone during the quieter winter months.

The beach stretches for about a kilometer, framed by mountains, trees, and a vibrant array of wildflowers. Its untouched nature means there are no restaurants or hotels directly on its sands. However, nearby Barra da Lagoa and Praia Mole offer excellent dining and accommodation options. The beach’s isolation ensures that the only sounds you’ll hear are the waves crashing and the wind rustling.
For the active traveler, this is a haven. Surfers can catch waves away from the crowds, while divers and fishing enthusiasts have plenty to explore. And if you’re there at the right time, the sight of the full moon rising over the ocean is nothing short of magical.
Safety is paramount. Given its secluded nature, we’d especially recommend women consider visiting with a companion during the off-peak season.
A must-visit spot is the trail leading to “Dolmen da Oração”. This vantage point offers unparalleled views of sunrises, sunsets, and moonrises, truly capturing the island’s enchantment.
While Praia da Galheta offers an escape, its strategic location between Praia Mole and Barra da Lagoa, two of the island’s most popular beaches, provides opportunities for exploration. Buses near the beach take you to Barra da Lagoa, where you can savor local cuisine and visit Projeto Tamar, a conservation initiative for Brazil’s native turtles. Their longstanding efforts on the island are commendable. For a taste of local culture, a short journey to Lagoa da Conceição immerses you in vibrant street markets and the island’s lively nightlife.
Praia da Galheta is a must visit nude beach. There is so much to enjoy and explore here! If you’ve never stripped off at a beach before this would also be a great place to do it.
