Nudity Policy
OPTIONALNudity is expected but optional
The Good
- Naturist-friendly and accepted: This is Nelson’s long-standing clothing-optional beach, known for its relaxed, judgment-free vibe where nudity is common and respected.
- Scenic mountain setting: Soft red sand, clear lake water, and Selkirk Mountain views make it one of the most picturesque inland nude beaches in British Columbia.
- Close to downtown: Only a few minutes from Nelson proper, offering the rare mix of wilderness feel and town convenience. It’s also just a short scenic walk via the Nelson Lakeshore Pathway or the railway tracks that leads directly to the beach.
- Laid-back crowd: Expect a mix of locals, naturists, hippies, families, and free spirits;most are friendly and respectful, adding to the easygoing atmosphere.
- Plenty of space: The beach is wide enough to find your own spot - if one end gets rowdy, you can easily move down the shoreline.
The Bad
- No facilities: There are no restrooms, showers, or changing huts on-site, so plan ahead.
- Limited parking: Small parking area near the pathway; it fills up fast on hot days.
- Unofficial status: It’s clothing-optional but not formally designated, which means occasional clothed visitors or curious passersby.
- Occasional rowdiness: On some afternoons, a few groups may bring music or drinks - though the crowd is usually mellow, it can get lively.
- Overnight campers: While overnight stays are not permitted, some people still camp nearby discreetly - rarely an issue, but worth noting.
