- Can Get Busy in Good Weather: While quieter than Brighton, it can still attract crowds on sunny days.
The Naked Truth
The approach to Shoreham Beach is hardly glamorous. You pass industrial buildings and warehouses, and at first glance it can feel like you’ve taken a wrong turn.
Don’t judge it too quickly.
Once you reach the shoreline, a high retaining wall blocks most of the dockside surroundings and the beach feels far more peaceful than expected. It is a long-established, unofficial naturist spot and many regulars actually prefer it to Brighton’s far more exposed and public nude beach.
The main naturist area is on the pebble shoreline, with additional nude sunbathing sometimes found farther east beyond the large boulder groyne. That quieter section can feel especially secluded, although it is less clearly defined and discretion is important.
This is not a luxury beach. There are no facilities, the shore is uncomfortable without a padded mat, and the industrial setting will not appeal to everyone. At low tide, however, patches of sand appear, and swimming can be very enjoyable when the sea is calm.
Shoreham’s appeal is its simplicity. It is quiet, low-key and refreshingly free of spectacle. For nude beach lovers who value space and privacy over postcard scenery, it may be one of the better options on this part of the English coast. It is less well known than nearby Brighton Naturist Beach.
Insider Tip
Visit early morning or during sunset for the best experience; the light and atmosphere make the beach especially memorable.
