- Parking challenges: Roads are narrow and steep with very limited space, which can be stressful during busy days.
- Rocky terrain: Pebbles and large stones dominate the shoreline, making water shoes and thick mats almost essential.
- Little shade: Natural shade is limited after midday, so sun protection is critical.
- Not beginner-friendly: The rugged terrain and descent make it less suitable for people with mobility issues or heavy gear.
- Carry-in, carry-out: No services directly on the beach, so you must bring everything you need.
The Naked Truth
This is a genuine naturist beach where nudity is the norm rather than the exception. While there may be a nearby textile area, the FKK section itself is widely understood to be clothing-free, and visitors wearing swimsuits are uncommon. The atmosphere is relaxed and non-sexual, with most people focused on sunbathing, swimming, or quietly socializing.
The crowd tends to be mixed in age, with many longtime regulars who treat the beach almost like a community space. Couples are common, and solo visitors are generally accepted without issue. If you are new to naturism, Spiaggua dei Filtri beach can feel liberating but also very “authentic,” meaning it’s less polished than resort-style nude beaches and more about raw nature and freedom. It is a recommended nude beach in Itay.
Insider Tip
Bring water shoes and a thick beach mat or inflatable pad. The rocks are beautiful but unforgiving without proper gear.

Getting There
Spiaggia dei Filtri is located near Santa Croce, about 15–16 km from Trieste city center along the coastal road.
By Car: Drive toward Santa Croce from Trieste and follow signs toward the coast or marina area near the Oceanographic Institute or Belvedere/Bellariva zone. Parking is along narrow, steep roadside sections with limited spaces, so arriving early is recommended. From parking, follow paths or steps downhill toward the shoreline, then walk along the rocks to reach the naturist area.
By Foot: Access involves descending a rocky or stepped path, sometimes with rope handrails. The walk down typically takes 10–15 minutes, with a steeper climb back up.
By Public Transport: Take suburban bus lines G21 or G51 from Trieste toward Santa Croce. Get off at the Santa Croce stop, walk downhill toward the coast near the Oceanographic Institute, then follow steps or paths to the shoreline and continue along the rocks to the FKK section.
