The Good

- Space even during busy periods: While August and Ferragosto can be crowded, there is generally enough room to lay down an umbrella, especially if you walk a little farther away from the main access points.
- Clean and mostly unspoiled: Outside peak season, the beach is notably clean and quiet. September, in particular, is ideal for those seeking calm and space.
- Good balance of free beach and services: Public beach areas alternate with private beach clubs offering bars, showers, and sunbed rentals, giving visitors flexibility.
- Beautiful setting: On clear days, views extend toward Elba, Gorgona, and sometimes even Corsica, adding to the sense of openness and scale.
The Bad
- Tricky shoreline for children: While sandy overall, the waterline is often mixed with pebbles and gravel, making entry uncomfortable without water shoes. The seabed drops off quickly, which can be dangerous for small children and inexperienced swimmers.
- Sea quality varies: The water is generally clean but not always crystal clear, and seaweed or debris can wash ashore after rough weather.
- Few public facilities: In the free beach sections there are no toilets, drinking fountains, or showers, which can be inconvenient for longer stays.
- Seasonal crowding and parking stress: During summer weekends and mid-August, parking fills quickly and congestion increases significantly.
- Dog rules are inconsistent: Dogs are often not allowed during the bathing season, especially when lifeguards are present, and enforcement can be uneven, causing confusion and frustration.
The Naked Truth
Spiaggia libera di Bibbona is a proper, honest Tuscan beach: long, natural, and relaxed with naturists welcome. It is very much family-oriented outside the nude section with lots of textiles. It’s not glamorous and it’s not wild, but it gives you space, sea air, and a real sense of coastline rather than resort polish. Walk south from the main entrance towards the naturistn area and it feels calmer, especially outside peak August madness.
What catches people off guard is the quick drop-off and pebbly waterline; this isn’t ideal for small kids or anyone expecting gentle, shallow swimming. Add summer parking stress and minimal facilities on the free sections, and it’s best suited to visitors who come prepared, walk a bit, and don’t expect beach-club comfort unless they choose to pay for it.

Getting There
Spiaggia libera di Bibbona is located in Marina di Bibbona on the Tuscan coast, between Cecina and Castagneto Carducci. The naturist section is the south section of the beach.
By Car: From the SS1 Aurelia, take the exit for Bibbona / Marina di Bibbona and follow signs toward the seafront. Parking is available near Piazza del Forte and in designated lots along the pine forest. From there, flat, well-marked paths lead through the pine forest directly onto the beach.
By Foot: If staying in Marina di Bibbona, multiple shaded pedestrian paths cross the pine forest and connect the town to the beach. The walk is flat, easy, and comfortable even in summer heat.
By Public Transport: Seasonal local buses connect Cecina and Bibbona with Marina di Bibbona. From the bus stop, the beach is reached on foot via the pine forest paths.
