The Good
- One of Sicily’s most beautiful naturist beaches: Spiaggia naturista di Marianelli sits inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve and feels wild, open, and untouched. Soft sand, crystal-clear water, and a calm, respectful atmosphere define the experience.
- True naturist culture: This is widely recognized as a one of the best naturist beaches in Italy. with a relaxed and inclusive mix of couples, solo visitors, and LGBT travelers. Clothing-optional use is common and generally well respected.
- Stunning natural setting: The beach is backed by dunes, Mediterranean vegetation, rosemary, and wild thyme. Driftwood scattered along the shore adds to the raw, natural charm rather than detracting from it.
- Excellent swimming and snorkeling: The water is usually clear and inviting, often described as some of the warmest in Sicily, though currents can become strong on windy days.
- Connected coastal walks: Marianelli links naturally with Eloro and other nearby beaches via walking paths, making it possible to explore the area on foot, even nude, without difficulty.
The Bad
- No facilities at all: There are no toilets, showers, trash bins, cafés, or shade on the beach itself. You must bring everything with you and carry all waste back out.
- Mandatory entrance fee: Access to the nature reserve costs €3.50 per adult, and you must leave by early evening. Some visitors question the fee given the lack of services.
- Parking theft is a serious issue: Multiple reports confirm regular car break-ins, even at places marked as “guarded parking.” Valuables, passports, and luggage are frequently stolen.
- Driftwood can be extensive: After storms, large amounts of branches can cover parts of the shoreline, reducing usable space.
- Strong currents on windy days: The sea can become dangerous unexpectedly. Swimming requires attention and caution.
The Naked Truth
Marianelli is the real deal: officially naturist, calm, and genuinely beautiful. When it’s good, it’s excellent; soft sand, clear warm water, respectful crowd. When it’s bad, it’s about logistics and risk, not vibes: no facilities, mandatory reserve fee, and very real car-break-in problems. If you come prepared (and travel light), it’s one of Sicily’s best nude beaches. If you expect comfort or security, you’ll be stressed.
The trade-off is comfort and security. There are zero facilities, brutal sun, and a real history of car break-ins that cannot be ignored. If you arrive prepared, carry everything with you, and leave absolutely nothing in your car, Marianelli can feel extraordinary. If you expect ease, safety nets, or convenience, it will feel stressful instead of liberating.
Insider Tip
Bring only what you can carry to the beach and leave absolutely nothing in your car, not even in the trunk. Theft is common here unfortunately. Visit on weekdays for the calmest and most respectful atmosphere.
Who's Here
Mostly naturists, couples, solo travelers, LGBT visitors, and nature lovers. On weekends and peak season, a small number of textile visitors may appear, sometimes disrupting the naturist vibe.
Beach Surface
Fine soft sand, no rocks, scattered driftwood along parts of the shore, and a generally pleasant seabed for swimming.
Access Difficulty
Moderate: Easy walking access once parked, but the approach roads are rough and parking requires planning.
