Nudity Policy
OPTIONALNudity expected but respectful atmosphere (designated naturist section)
The Good
- Wild, untouched coastline: Spiaggia Termitosa is beautifully natural, stretching for several kilometers along the Ionian Sea. Its wide sandy shore, pine forest backdrop, and clear water make it a peaceful escape from crowded lidos and beach clubs. It's definitely one of the best naturist beaches in Italy.
- Crystal-clear sea: Many visitors describe the water as transparent and clean, with fish and even starfish visible near the shore. The shallow, gradually descending bottom makes swimming comfortable.
- A true sense of freedom: The naturist area, located a short walk from the main access point, offers tranquil spots for privacy, relaxation, and quiet sunbathing. For many, this untouched environment feels like an oasis of peace.
- Pine forest entrance: The walk through the fragrant pine forest, accompanied by cicadas, flowers, and shade, adds to the beauty and atmosphere. It sets the tone for a natural, secluded beach experience.
- Spacious even in August: Despite rising popularity, the beach still offers enough room to place umbrellas at the shoreline, even during the busiest summer weeks.
- Great for long walks: The shoreline extends for kilometers, making it ideal for long, scenic strolls along fine sand and open sea views.
The Bad
- Voyeurs and inappropriate behavior: Access by fully clothed voyeurs in the upper dunes is unfortunately common. This creates discomfort and needs stricter enforcement.
- Poor waste management: There are no differentiated bins beyond the level crossing, and chemical toilets previously available are now gone. As a result, the bushes behind the dunes are suffering from misuse.
- Lack of disability access: There are no designated disabled parking spaces in the pine forest area nor near the station parking, despite national disability laws requiring them.
- Textile intrusion: The naturist area is only about 200 meters long, yet many textile beachgoers ignore the signs and enter the space, leading to unpleasant situations for naturists seeking privacy.
- General litter: Although the sea is clean, plastic and debris are often found on the sand, and increased crowds mean more waste left behind by inconsiderate visitors.
- No services at all: No bars, lidos, showers, rentals, or shaded structures. Visitors must bring everything—water, food, umbrellas, bags, and respect for nature.
The Naked Truth
Spiaggia Termitosa is freedom in its rawest form; for better and for worse. It’s stunningly natural, quiet once you move away from the access points, and offers that rare feeling of space where the sea, sand, and pine forest take center stage. When conditions are right and the crowd is respectful, it can feel like a hidden sanctuary: open horizons, clear water, and long, peaceful walks with nothing built in or imposed.
But this freedom comes with real trade-offs. The lack of services, weak enforcement, and repeated intrusion by voyeurs and unaware textile visitors can seriously undermine the sense of safety and privacy that naturists seek. Termitosa rewards preparation, awareness, and distance; those who walk farther, arrive early, and stay alert will find beauty and calm; those expecting protection, structure, or comfort will likely leave frustrated.
Insider Tip
Arrive early and park near Castellaneta Marina station to avoid confusion and unnecessary walking. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and your own shade, as the beach has no services. For more privacy, walk several hundred meters along the shoreline toward the quieter naturist section, away from textile clusters and potential voyeurs.
Who's Here
Naturists, couples seeking tranquility, long-time locals, and nature lovers who prefer a wild, undeveloped beach.
Beach Surface
Fine, soft sand that stretches for kilometers, with a gradually descending seabed. Aqua socks aren’t needed.
Access Difficulty
Moderate: The beach requires a short walk of about 300–500 meters through the pine forest after crossing the railway tracks. The path is flat but can be sandy or uneven in places.

Getting There
Located near Castellaneta Marina, in the Taranto region of southern Italy.
By Car: Do not follow Google Maps directly to “Termitosa Beach,” as it may send you toward paid parking and a non-existent access road. Instead, set your GPS to “Stazione di Castellaneta Marina”. Park near the train station or along the road leading up to it. From the station area, walk toward the small gate marked with directions to the sea. Continue straight along the dirt-and-stone pathway until you reach the open railway crossing.
By Public Transport: Public transport access is limited. If arriving by train, exit at Castellaneta Marina Station and follow the same walking route toward the beach via the path leading into the pine forest.
