Their Description

Vritomartis Naturist Resort positions itself as a truly unique and special naturist hotel - one you are unlikely to experience anywhere else. Named after a revered ancient Minoan goddess, the resort combines traditional Cretan architecture with modern comforts in a serene family-owned setting.

Set on a secluded promontory two kilometres from Chora Sfakion, it offers spectacular views of the Cretan Sea framed by the rugged White Mountains, creating a dramatic and tranquil nudist haven.

With 85 beautifully appointed rooms (42 in the main hotel and 43 in bungalows), the resort elegantly blends privacy and community. The spacious, well‑tended grounds host a 25‑metre naturist pool and easy access to their private nudist beach, all designed to support a relaxed, sun-soaked lifestyle.

Vritomartis is a licensed naturist resort aligning with International Naturist Federation guidelines but with their own welcoming twist. Outdoor areas operate as clothing-optional or nude, while indoor spaces require covering up (even with a towel or pareo). The emphasis is on creating a relaxed, friendly, body-positive environment where even first-time naturists feel at ease.

Their stated goal: ensure you remember your holiday forever - whether you're seeking peaceful solitude or gentle activities, the warmth of the welcome is only surpassed by the warmth of the Cretan sun.

Vritomartis Naturist Resort will always have a special place in our hearts. It’s the first naturist resort we have visited and we have returned multiple times since. It is truly a unique place and offers something for everybody. While we first booked because of its beach, it’s the service, amenities and beautiful surroundings which keep us coming back.

We were hosted by the resort in July and while the resort seemed close to being booked out we never felt like it was crowded. The spaces are set up in such a way that you can either keep to yourselves as a couple or socialize with other guests.

We spent a lot of time in the pool area and loved that you could set up either on grass or closer to the pool on the pavement. The resort has also introduced poolside food and beverage service which is very convenient and makes it way too easy to be truly lazy. There are also activities throughout the day in and near the pool area such as yoga, body painting, aqua exercise and boules. The poolside serving staff and entertainment staff are so fun and easy to communicate with. It’s clear they love their jobs!

The resort itself is a beautiful building with an open concept and lots of comfortable seating areas in and out of the hot Cretan sun. There are many different kinds of rooms with all of them having an outdoor space of some kind. The rooms all have refrigerators but since breakfast and dinner are included, you don’t really need much more for kitchen amenities!

Filaki Beach truly is a draw card for this resort. Though it’s not exclusive to resort guests and is accessible by the public, the vast majority of beach goers are from the resort. There’s a regular shuttle from Vritomartis that operates in the morning and later in the afternoon. It is about a 15 minute walk from the resort but be sure to wear a hat and bring water, you’re completely exposed to the sun during this walk.

Once you’re at the beach, there’s a taverna. It’s run by Vritomartis and this is where you can also rent loungers and umbrellas. Beachside food and beverage service is offered here as well. The food is traditional Greek fare and we highly recommend planning to have at least one lunch here! There is a bathroom here with showers to rinse off.

The beach is a rocky one so remember your water shoes. The water is crystal clear and gentle. This is a truly special place to spend the day lounging and swimming.

Included in your stay at Vritomartis is buffet breakfasts and dinners. The food is excellent and is offers a variety of local traditional dishes to try. The dishes change from day to day along with the evening entertainment. It is an easy place to socialize and meet other guests without any awkwardness.

For those looking for a bit more adventure off resort, Vritomartis offers excursions. We highly recommend booking these in on your first day as they do get full quickly. There are some excursions by boat which take you to nearby naturist beaches and coastal towns. There are also some outings by vehicle which take you on hikes nearby. We really enjoyed the west coast boat tour which stops at numerous small naturist beaches and Loutro for lunch and browsing the shops.

The town of Hora Sfakia is about a five minute drive from the resort. There are regular shuttles from the resort. We recommend visiting the town as it offers great tavernas and cafes as well as shops selling local goods.

Vritomartis also has a spa on site, this is also a good idea to book in early as appointments can be hard to come by.

This resort is a really great entry-level nudist experience. Clothing is required in the dining areas and reception. The pool and beach areas are mandatory naturist.

While Vritomartis was our first naturist resort, we know it will continue to be a special place for us to visit again in the future.

Getting There

Vritomartis Naturist Resort sits near Chora Sfakion on Crete’s stunning south coast. The drive is incredibly scenic, taking you through dramatic mountain passes and traditional villages before opening up to those breathtaking views of the Libyan Sea. The roads are well-signposted, but be prepared for some twists and turns as you approach the coast.

By Car:
There are two main airports on Crete: Chania (CHQ) and Heraklion (HER). From Chania Airport, it’s about 80 km (roughly 1.5 hours). Follow the signs towards Chania for a few kilometers, then take the National Road towards Rethymnon. After about 30 km, turn right towards Vrisses–Chora Sfakion (look for the Shell station as a landmark). From there, it’s a 40 km mountain drive through Vrisses, Krapi, Askifou, and Imbros. Once you reach the sea, turn right to Chora Sfakion - Vritomartis is 1 km before the village on your left.

From Heraklion Airport, the journey is longer — about 150 km (roughly 2.5 hours). Head west on the National Road towards Rethymnon, then continue past Kavros and Georgioupolis. After about 100 km on the highway, turn right towards Vrisses, then follow signs to Chora Sfakion as above.

Tip: The mountain road is narrow in places but paved and safe. Take it slow, enjoy the view, and maybe stop for a coffee in Vrisses or Imbros Gorge on the way.

Airport Transfers:
Don’t want to drive? Vritomartis can arrange taxi transfers from both Chania and Heraklion airports. Just let them know when booking.

Car Rental:
Planning to explore? The resort partners with a local rental company in Chora Sfakion with competitive rates and a good selection of vehicles, from compact cars to 4x4s and minibuses.
